Is it okay to separate cats?

Let's say in home A there were two cats, and one of these cats is "yours" while you lived in home A. Let's also say that in Home A, someone was always home 24/7, and your cat always had company of the other cat. If you were moving to Home B, and the other cat and people were in Home A, would it be bad to separate your cat from the environment of Home A? I mean, let's say Home B was not close, and it would only end up being you and your cat, and you would be working daily. That would mean your cat has been removed from a familiar environment where someone and another cat is there 24/7, to a place where there is only you and you are not home during the portion of the day when you are working. Would this be a bad thing to do? :(

i would watch the cat for seperation anxiety. sometimes when a cat is used to being with another, they will mourn if they can't find them. doesn't happen to all cats, but i would keep an eye on him,and perhaps get him a new playmate in house b :)

Thank you for the response. getting him another playmate would be extremely difficult, since living on own and barely making ends meet wont allow for another cat. I am mainly concerned because my cat has been in that house from a very young age - 6 weeks, and the other cat was already there. He's grown up in that house, grown up with having the other cat always there, and grown up with someone always being there 24/7. As a result, I'm just very worried, I wouldn't want him to be sad, but since he is my baby, I could not bear being without him.

I woudl definitely be concerned abotu the cat being moved. But, watch the cat closely, and you may be OK. Cats get depressed ... eat less, play less, other behavioural differences ... could be s gins that cat A is misisng cat B. It may be that your company is enough ... depends on the bonds and such.
