We've just brought two degus (named Sunny and Sid) and they are soooo cute! I didn't know they existed until earlier in March when I saw some in a pet shop and fell for them instantly. I went home and read up on them and their habits and decided I was going to buy some. So this week we went a purchased two little cuties! Just wondered if anyone else have heard or owned them or still have some and could give any tips on them? I know their tails fall off if you pick them up by it! Their foods and basic stuff like that!

For anyone who wants to know what a degu is I found a web site. They are very cute but how did you acquire one as a pet?? Heres the site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degu PS I looked up degus and it brought me to degu. So hopefully its the right animal.

Yes I think it is the same animal, also known as a few other names origins in Chile. I contacted a few pet stores around my area as the ones I had seen were in a different area and luckily one store had just got some in! Apparantly they are quite difficult to get hold of though especially in the UK. Thanks for your response and your link!

Those are still fairly new to being kept as pets....not like the well known hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats. That's why you may not have heard of them before.
I don't have any myself....but here is a website with some very extensive information on feeding and care of those little critters.

I hope this helps!!!

I thought it was strange that I hadn't seen them anywhere else and I'm a regular visitor to pet shops I can't go past one without popping in to see the little animals! Thanks for the link!
