Have you heard of meningitis? This is a terrible thing!

I just found out a person in his 30's that I went to school with many years ago, DIED of meningitis! He had what he thought was the flu and then was unconscious, then he became conscious but lived paralyzed from the eyes down (this would be like being in hell!) on a respirator and then finally died after 3 months of living like this. He was married with 2 children under the age of 5. This is horrifying and I'm very upset. Life is so scary sometimes. Why does this happen?
