Speed dating redux

Well, I went to my first Speed Dating event last night. It wasn't too bad, certainly more fun than having dental work done (with or without freezing) but I'm not sure I'd do it again. The venue was crowded and therefore very noisy, necessitating either yelling or talking directly into ears. Towards the end, I think the time keepers were blowing the whistle every two minutes, rather than the stated three minutes. It was a little slow getting started, and then ended early, so I only got to "date" about a dozen instead of the estimated 20 expected (60 minutes divided by 3 minutes each equals 20 dates). I marked a few as "maybes" but the rest were "nos". There were some I would have liked to talk to but didn't get the chance. Then, after the music started, conversation was not possible, although it wasn't as ear-splitting as it was at the last PoF event I attended. My friend and I left about 10 pm.

Speed dating....you have to be joking. What is the purpose of such an event and a disorganized one at that if I am to go by your description. They can't possibly expect you to make a decision about someone in 3 minutes that's insane.

Actually, we are all guilty of making snap decisions about people in all spheres of life, not just speed dating. I went just for the experience of it. I wasn't expecting to make any real connection. It was originally scheduled for the weekend of my birthday, so thought it'd be a fun way to celebrate. It got postponed when the organizer had a car accident. By the by, when I first saw your comment, I read your username as sumo-fall-tears... (a *very* short haiku?) :o)

My name does actually come from a poem I wrote...:}...I do believe you are right about making snap decisions, but to be thrown into that situation as far as finding a significant other is kind of mind boggling.
