Do you Dumpster Dive? What kinds of treasures have you found while digging in the dumpster?
We have only dumpster dived at shops closing business. No garbage, just trash - which is relatively clean.
When a walmart closed to open a super walmart across the street - they threw away a lot rather than cart it across the street. We got about 150 diaper packs...you know the individual disposable diaper kits that you plug 75 cents into a machine to get? they had diaper, changing pad, and wipes.
We got a pile of videos, plant shelves, notebooks, pens, markers, sale signs, shelving units etc.
We were able to sell some display units which was a boost. We gave the money to our son because he was the major diver, you'd think he'd wear a scuba suit!

I have never done this, but my sister -in -law and brother-in -law when they were first married some how managed to decorate there whole house with dumpster finds and i might say it wasnt shabby. They used to hit the very rich neighborhoods on trash night seems rather than give to the needy the rich would rather throw it out. she also used to bring me home books I guess the stores throw them out if they dont sell, they did rip the covers off but hey I didnt mind, I say get what ya can Happy Diving.

Like spastic seagull I live in a small community, that is also surrounded by small communities. But, my husband's family live in CT. in a larger city - two of his brothers would do as your sister and hit the upscale neighborhoods on trash day. They recovered so many items that were flawless in appearance and function. were not placed in a trash with rubbish. Once brother in law recovered a woman's fur coat (back when fur was first becoming taboo) and sewn into the lining he found a jewel case, it was filled with all sorts of jewelry, gold, silver and platinum! there was a charm bracelet with many beautiful charms with engravements etc.
I always thought he should have brought that back to the house and face the humiliation of having garbage picked - so that they could have this heirloom collection back. maybe it was mother's and mother was sent to a home or had passed away, who knows. :(

we can't here-it's an arrestable offense-but-
they do have "junk day" once a week where people put out all kinds of stuff.i've found some unbelieveable things on the curb.antiques, computers, exercise equipment..it's just amazing what people discard.

I don't do that as a hobby lol. Not much chance for that here in Singapore anyway. But when there is a sale and if I am passing by and not rushing for time, I will just pop over and take a look too. I never mind picking up something I need or want and is still cheap. ;-)
