A good friend of mine has made an observation concerning the Elderly and General Anesthesia. My friend is in her 70's and with her relatives and friends has heard many stories. She is of the opinion (from these observances) that an old folk goes in for surgery perfectly sound of his mental faculties - but when he comes out of surgery he has dementia. Never quite coming back to himself after surgery (mentally) Have you had an experiences with those you know and love that would either confirm or deny her observations? Can General Anesthesia affect the brain function long term? causing such things as dementia, and Alzheimer's disease?
