I think it is always useful to explain things when people misunderstand. If you do not people will have a wrong image of you - they will never really know you. I think this should be the general rule. No rule without exceptions: if it is just a trivial thing that is misunderstood, and keeping quiet will end an argument: keep quiet, if you can.
