I have a question regarding plants

I have heard that to get rid of those pesky little knat flying things that hover around green plants in your house, that you can use a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol, dish soap and water mixed together and lightly mist your plants with it. Does this hurt the plant or help? I have several green plants in my house and i'm starting to see these flying bugs that look like knats. I've read that you can use dish soap, but also am seeing that might hurt the plant. Any suggestions or help?
