Self esteem

A friend of mine never had high self esteem in his life... everytime he feels good, nice and clever something bad is going to him... he can never be relaxed at all. I spend a lot of time with him because we are friends since ever and I can see how he forces himself trying to be better than he is. What do you think about this behaviour?

If he is as good a friend as you allude to then you need to sit down with him in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. You can say that it is obvious in how he acts that he is insecure. He needs to relax and be who and what he is and try to just do his best. He will have to develop his self esteem however you can do your part to support him until he can stand on his own. He is wasting alot of energy and he could be happy in life with a minimum of fuss about things. Good luck in this, it will take some time so that your friend can be more confident.
