of the beholder sees ? All we percieve is invariably modified and interpreted by the combination of memories and rationalizations that is our understanding . But if we take for granted that "truth" is what we should seek to ultimately succeed , then the more successful we are in making objective assessment , the better . So is there a universla method for clearing our minds and freeing oneself from preconception ?

I do not believe that we can get rid of our prejudices, because most are formed from fear, fear of the unknown, and until we are willing to open our mind to the unknown, and actually look at something, can our minds be changed. I will give you a good example. I often visit the flickr site it is a place where hundreds of photographers both professional and non professional display their pictures. there is one photographer I particularly enjoy, her name or handle is "elisham" I believe she is from India, while all her photos are very good I get chills up my spine when she does portraits of the people of India. again her portraits of the elderly are incredible. Some of the people by their dress are not exactly poor, but some are very poor, and yet her photos give each and every one of those people a dignity , There was one photo that I saw last night it was a woman, I couldn't tell her age, because she had leprosy, Her face had been attacked as well her hands were nubs, Her hands were together in the Indian salutation, And yet I saw a woman full of dignity and life. and that was elisham's point that she was trying to show, If I had passed this same woman on the street, I know I would have crossed to the other side in fear, I know that leprosy can be cured with a medication that costs pennies, and yet this woman walks around with a disease that has been around for thousands of years. The disease may be thousands of years old and it can be cured, but the fear is there, Now I think I would have not crossed the street. I had my eyes opened, and I am able to no longer fear that particular thing,

I just remembered a quote from the last StarWars movie , where Yoda points out (to Annikin ?) that the FEAR of loss will lead to the dark side . Maybe prejudice is what the dark side is about ? . Fear is VITAL to us however , because 300 years ago , the fear the sight of that leper woman instinctively causes in you might be the only thing saving you from getting infected with the same disease .

Our own mind can make us happy, our own mind can make us unhappy. There is no individual or material thing in the whole world that will do this for us. All events act as triggers, which often catches us unawares. Therefore we need to develop strong awareness of our own mind-moments. To that extent you are right as well. For example, when one looks at this avatar all that you say will hold true unless there is a realization of what I am saying in the first paragraph! Cheers!

The way to do this is to try to keep an open mind. I have a quote here which you might find useful - "Your mind is like a parachute. It works best when it is open". So keep an open mind when viewing things... it helps to get rid of your prejudices. ;-)
