Do you know if you have body odour?

Somehow this morning, while on the subway to work, I was surrounded with people who SMELL !!!! YUCK!!!!!! No number of exclamation marks is enough to show the extent of my disgust for those people. Let say i give them the benefit of the doubt. It IS monday morning and they have no time to take a shower or bath or brush their teeth. Do they think they need to flap their arms for their body odour to travel and fill up the air i breathe? Don't they realise that they smell bad? Or is it too troublesome to roll deodorant ALL OVER their body? *ARGHHHH* What would you do if you are in my position?

ewww, body odor is the worst stink ever ! I don't understand how people can feel good about themselves without a shower. I have heard it said that some people honestly "don't smell themselves". I don't know if thats true or not but regardless we ALL KNOW that no shower = stinky pits!! Why not have quick shower and be sure we smell fresh !! The only other explanation I can come up with is...people want to stink, this way they get a whole section of the bus, subway or train all to themselves. I for one would rather walk than be the result of people gagging at the very smell of me.

Hi mom_of_2, thank you for your reply. I've never heard people 'dont smell themselves' before. I do my fair share of walking everyday, but the subway is such a necessity. It will take me hours to reach my work place by bus. I love smelling fresh everyday. It's a good start to any mornings. Thanks again. - Lyn

I think I would probably be holding my breath until I turned blue! LOL. I can't see how people can leave their homes smelling that awful. It's just disgusting! I wonder if they would be offended if they were sprayed with Febreze or Lysol? LOL

I tried holding my breath but i wouldn't want to turn blue in case these people leave their stench on me! Maybe i should just carry febreeze/lysol with me at all times. Great idea Katlady! Cheers! - Lyn

Its really hard to be in your position, when i was in college i experienced the heavy traffic during peak hours in the LRT (train) station, people are really pushed together to let everyone in. It was terrible, i feel that their bad odors are sticking to my clothes too. I dont know why couldnt they take LONG baths and use perfumes/body sprays before leaving home. That lasted for a year then women started complaining being pushed along with the men. Some men were not so nice and a lot have hidden agenda too, some women also filed for harrassment in the trains, the management then decided to separate the men and women. Only Pregnant women were allowed to have their husbands with them in the female part of the train.

I'd like that in my country as well. I think i will feel safer with separate trains for men & women.

agree with u, people are scruffy sometimes. Even they take shower in the morning and brush their teeth, they dress not clean clothes logged in to sweat..brrrrrrr..... I can't understand, how it is possible don't feel u smell bad...or feel comfortable in dirty clothes...It would be good, that somebody told them about it frankly. But there are health disorders of organizm, due to who can occour bad smell: diabetes and etc. ,when person didn't feel it.

Hi scorpiostar, it is just human nature i think. When these people grow up with body odour, their sense of smell probably changed over the years into neutral state. Their nose does not smell anything foul but i wonder if they also have no reaction to other foul smelling people. MY FIL is diabetic and so is my dad. But only my dad has an off smell due to the medications he has to take and the food intake he fails to control. Thank you for your reply scorpiostar. - Lyn

One day I walked past a man in the grocery store, his body stench nearly knocked me over. I was so tempted to go pick up a bar of soap and a can of deodarant and hand it to him. I don't think their is any excuse to be dirty and smell. Soap is cheap.

I believe you are right. Body odour is the worst, and I have been in that position many times. They just don't realise that they are smelling so bad, right? If it kept happening over and over I would say something to the boss. If it was a close co-worker, I would tell him/her about it. If it was only a few times, I would leave ASAP. Pablo

How would you tell them off about their smell? i tried hinting to a friend by bringing her to the mart to show her brands of deodorant. i even gave praises to a few brands. however, that didnt help. All she did was she picked up the deodorant, read what's written on the bottle and then, she put it back to the rack.. i gave up. sometimes i wonder if her boyfriend is immuned to her smell as well...? I do not think these people do there are so many of them adn they seem to be breeding. But there are now scent free workplaces for people who are sensative to scents put in deodorants, soap, cleaners etc. A friend of miine works in a smelter adn they have scent free soap and the are told nto to wear perfumes, colonges adn strong smelling soaps. Think there is a huge difference from drowning your self inti or wearing jsut enough.

Hi huggiebear, thank you for you reply. About the breeding, i don't seem to see it.. hehehehe... The reason, today was fine. Maybe because it is a Wednesday so they do not rush anymore (give them the benefit of the doubt). Do you know why the smelter does not allow people to wear perfumes, colognes or strong smelling soaps? I think that is very interesting. Is it for safety reasons? - Lyn

that's a problem . i think they cann't smell their body odour themselves, because only ten minutes our beezers will fit scent of our around. Perhaps i will keep away from them who emanating smell if i stay your position.

I'll leave as soon as possible, you know, you could not force them to clean the smell, while at least you can escape.

it's really terrible. If I were you, I will get away ASAP. I heard that in western country 70% people have body odour, and I wondered how could they handle it?

I am with you on this one....it seems to me that it is older generation men. It is like they have rolled around in a vat of sweat and jumped on public transport. My first instinct is to shout loudly in a terets style..........daym whats that smell. oh its you! wjile pointing like a mad man.........However, after being arrested for that, I see thats not a good idea lol A joking of course.

I've just replied to a similar discussion but I will say it over again. I hate people who smell and are so inconsiderate of others. I'm sure they know they stink but can't be bothered. It is simply laziness and poor hygiene. That's why I always carry with me a hankie sprinkled with a bit of cologne to cover my nose during 'emergencies' like the one you just had.

Yes, of course, it's my body. Sometimes, when i feel not to go to the shower and the whole day, i'm busy working with household chores, i can feel that i already have body odor. But of course, i will not got outside if i feel bad, i dont want to distract somebody with my smell. It's shameful, you know..lol I also experience what you had. I dont know why people really like to have body odor, that infact it's so bad that others will smell their very bad odor..They insensitive, or maybe they dont have feelings..

I wonder if people sometimes just can't detect an odor? Everyone should have time to take a quick shower or spray something on themselves. To know they have an odor and do nothing is the horror.

well there is nothing you can really do. but i used to know a person who carried soap bars with them and gave them out to people who smelled. you could always carry deo with you and be upfront to them but good luck. like i said not much you can do

maybe they were suffering from some kind of a nose disease or something so they can't smell themselves :) well, some people are simply unaware and careless about this simple hygiene matter and little do they know, they create a bad environment and impression in the first place.
