I normally look at body language to see if the person is paying attention or interested to have a conversation. I also listen to their replies to see if we might have anything in common. Else, i would have to say 'excuse me' as some people can be overbearing sometimes.

I'm not a great conversationalist. I'm only great if the person I'm talking to is great at handling conversations but if you leave the talking up to me, you might as well prepare for silence. :)

I haven't handled formal talks yet. I don't think I am a good conversationalit. But my friends find me humurous. I hosted a valentine program last year and the program turned out just well because I had the idea of dropping the formality instead.I just go by my instinct while hosting and tried imposing some jokes in between and I realized that everydbody is enjoying the program. They are actually laughing and giggling on what I am saying on stage. They said that I am joker and the program was indeed funny.
