Seriously, What Do You Think About...

people who only post responses to other people's topics without coming up with their own discussions? People like me? It's been weeks since I came up with my own topic (this one should not be counted). Lately, whenever I think of a topic, I check first if something similar has been posted already and I will find something like it. So I will just forget about it and post to other's discussions instead. I feel that a real myLotian should contribute with his/her own topics so I feel really useless right now because all I did is respond to other's discussions. Do you look at a person's profile to check the last time he came up with his own topic? Does it bother you if he never posted a topic for days/weeks? It may sound strange but I just feel guilty right now.

No reason to feel guilty hun, we all find it difficult to come up with something original as a topic sometimes. To be honest, I find myself responding to other discussions far more often than posting my own topics. I have, actually, posted two discussions today, something of a rarity for me.

I just feel bad because it's been so long since I posted my own topic. Hope I will get back to my "active mode" soon. Thanks. Your answer made me feel better already.

You can check mine. I've only started around five during my first month. This is my second month. If you notice others are posting almost the same discussions. It's funny to find a discussion titled like: Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate? and the next discussion will look like Dark Chocolate or Milk Chocolate? Lol. Does this mean that we have saturated all possible topics?

Hi! Topics have become so repetitive, actually. Some people may not even be aware that the same topic has already been posted by another. It's really difficult to come up with something original, that's why some people (like myself) just post when there's a life situation that they need to relate to others, or perhaps in want of advice. I had just posted a new one yesterday after several weeks. I think it's best to come up with a well thought-of topic than just go on posting so many useless ones because these don't help at all here at myLot. Well, just my opinion. Happy myLotting!

Yeah, I agree with you on that - better not post a topic than post something useless. But there are some people who really has a knack for coming up with unique topics all the time that whenever I read them, I was like "Why didn't I think of that before he/she did?!" I admire them for it.

No,don't feel bad about it,I started out thinking you had to make discussions as well, only to find, most of those I picked.nobody cared about, some I never got an answer to,but I do find many discussions that are of interest to me.so I do answer more than make. Every once in a while,I may think I have an interesting topic,so will list it,but they are becoming few and far between.but I enjoy this site so much,I have no intentions of leaving. As anyone seeing my numbers can tell,I am not here mainly for the money, but good friends and information. Don't feel guilty, just enjoy.

I can relate to this. Before, I would feel bad if I get few or no responses on my topics. And I would hesitate on posting a topic thinking "What if they don't find this interesting and no one responds?" I no longer take it personally if nobody responds to some of my topics. I just respond to other's discussions. Thank you, thank you!

No that doesnt bother me one bit. And it shouldnt bother you. I use to start discussions all the time and then I started running out of things to say. So I just responded to them. A couple times a week I will start a discussion. We are not required to start discussions if we dont want to. So dont worry about it. Have a good day.

Yeah, we are not being forced to come up with discussions. I just have to remember that. Thanks for reminding me. Enjoy your week, Terry!

There's nothing wrong with what you're doing, emily. I'm wondering though where you have been the last couple of weeks. Don't pressure yourself too much in thinking what thread to post. It will just come out naturally. Hope to see more of you in the coming days. Happy posting. :)

I think it's up to each individual as to how they take part in MyLot. If someone wants to post only replies to discussions, then so be it, in fact if people only want to start their own and not reaply to others peoples discussions then that's up to them (though personally i'd be less iclined to answer their discussions)! You are contributing enough just by joining in with discussions that have already been started, no need to feel guilty that you dont want to start your own. I don't pay much attention to how long ago others started their own topic.

atleast you got good reasons while you haven't been able to post your new discussion lately. some people don't care if their discussion is just a repetition of the others posted. as long as they can post and earn responses, they are okey with it. i don't usually start my own discussion. usually, i just have like 4 discussions per week and i'm okey with that. i want to post only quality discussions which might get the interested of others without breaking any rule stated on the guidelines. when i don't have unique to tell, i'd rather not post or start a discussion until i come up with a good one to share.

I've been on myLot for over 6 months now, and it's getting harder and harder to come up with an original topic of discussion. I have only posted one new one lately, but I do respond to as many discussions as I can when I'm online here. I don't feel guilty, but I do wish I could think of a few good discussions myself. Maybe when things slow down in my real life (after my granddaughter's wedding in June), I can get back to thinking again. ;)

Well you managed to find this to talk about!! I do know how you feel I used to post quite a lot but for the past month I've been very quiet but I have been responding to a lot of discussions though. You certainly don't have to feel guilty about it we all go through our quiet times and I think that's better than posting a poor discussion. Don't worry!!

I really don't think it matters. I am the same way - not quick to make the first move on a social level... so I find myself responding WAY more than starting my own. In fact, I have only started two discussions since I first joined! There's no reason at all to feel guilty - you're not alone, and it's certainly not a bad thing at all! =)

i respond more, too than start my own discussions. but i honestly envy those who can come up with interesting ones. they do have the intelligent mind to get out attention. i hope i have such a talent, too.

I only post a discussion if I am wanting people's adive/opinions about something, so no I don't feel bad. I don't want to start a bunch of useless discussions just because =) I mostly respond to other people and then start one when I think of something (which isn't too often).

Hey, no need to get disheartened or disappointed. If you are not posting discussions here. You are a true MyLotian if you are paying attention to what is going on here in MyLot and if you think only good of MyLot. Which i am sure is what you do. So, just carry on whatever you are doing and do it the best. Theres no point in posting useless discussions either so its better to just respond to the existing ones.

I don't have a lot of discussions. Some people, I think are better at starting discussions and some at responding. Some are good at both. I think you should do whatever is comfortable for you.

I agree with you - some are born responders and some topic-starters. Maybe I'm just stressing myself out too much but I just made my own rule that if you respond to topics you should come up with your own topics as well..

ya, what should I say? To be frank, I come here to post a response to your discussions just becacause I am facing the same situation as you. I still remember I once told myself that I should post at least one topic per day because mylot needs more discussions for us to respond. But finally, I almost become a responder. Now sometimes I don't know how to start a topic, you know, I am living a simple life and it seems there are not too many things which may attract others' eyeballs. If I start a discussion, and there is not any response after several days, even for months, I really feel sad. Now I found mylot is more like a blog than a forum. We can add html to decorate our own space. ya,now, I wanna regard my space in mylot as my own blog, and just write something even if nobody notice my discussions. I found the new feature to add html last night, and I am planning to add more elements in my space. It is the new feature which make me decide to post more topics. Have a gread day!

I dont see anything wrong with it. Some people like to start conversations others just like to be a part of one. As long as we're all enjoying the topic is what counts in my book.

No need to be gulity about that. not starting a quality discussion (due to redundancy) is far better than posting a useless discussion. I sometimes would like to post then look at the topics on hand and find nothing to respond to sometimes. As long as you post quality responses in others discussions is sufficient to make your presence felt here at mylot. Don't worry later on you will find something worth starting a topic about. Goodluck.

This is usual. In my case also ,I have been responding to discussions for the past several weeks and did'nt post a discussion of my own. But most of the topics looks silly, just for the sake of money. Here is where I am stuck ,in a fix .Do'nt know how to proceed.

I don't look at a person's profile to check the last time they came up with their own topic. That would be a silly judgement on others. I am more interested in the persons interests and the quality of their responses. When you are sitting around enjoying time with your friends, do you start worrying that you do input enough original ideas into the discussion? You shouldn't because they are your friends. We are your friends here. But on the other hand, I say go ahead and start that new topic even if you see it out their already. Your friends will see it coming from you and will be more likely to respond. It will have your twist to it so in that way it will be unique. I do find that I look for discussions coming from friends first, so I would likely not even know that something is already out there.
