Yesterday, for a treat i took my two kids out to the beautiful and ancient city of York. Not only was i charged an excessive £20 just to get there, but everything we wanted to eat, buy or see seemed to be priced accordingly. Why is there an attraction supliment? why are people so keen on ripping me off?

I came across this last week when I went to visit Old Sarem and Stonehenge in Salisbury, between them I was charged £10 to get in and if I wanted something to eat at Stonehenge then I could have spent a heck of alot more! What annoys me more is that these have been there for many years, yes there is an upkeep of the grounds and staff wages to pay but I think Stonehenge was a bit excessive saying how many people where there and who go there on a daily basis, they must make a tidy profit out of what should be there for us all to enjoy not for greedy companies to fill that fat wallets with!

Well EsKaren nothing is cheap anymore today It is hard to afford to go anywhere in these Days and I blame that to that Children are running Wild, Parents can't afford to take the Kids anywhere anymore as it costs to much

It's so ridiculous when you try to do anything with a family anymore. It's so expensive it's unreal. I am quite thrilled that our local AA Baseball Team (Detroit Tigers farm team) offers so many specials and makes it something that a family can truly afford to do together. Along with our local Indoor Arena Football team who offers extremely cheap seats along with the sideline seats that cost tons you can at least afford a couple of fun sporting events locally with the family. Places like amusement parks and such are so overpriced it's ridiculous.

I know exactly what you man hun, last year I wanted to go to alton Towers but the price put us off completely. So many of the attractions up their prices over the school holidays because they know that parents will be the victims of pester power and pay up.

yes and i find such cynical manipulation quite repulsive. We went in to the Jorvik viking exhibition, three of us. Me and my two kids, another £20 quid, its just too much, maybe its why British tourism is having such a hard time blessed be

I suppose there are good reasons for charging these amounts of money and it may be because these attractions rely on that money to support the staff and upkeep. That would be my guess.

It's almost always the case for tourist attractions - unless the place is somehow subsidized by e.g. the government. Never buy anything (be it food or souvenir) from tourist attractions. Never change money there too lol. That's about the worst place for such activities. :P
