WOOOHOOOO!!! That was my first thought when I opened my mail today. I recieved a check from SGI (Saskatchewan government insurance) in the amount of $135.23 These are rebates for people who had vehicles insured in the province of Saskatchewan last year. The rebate is determained by what you paid out in premiums. I immediatly started imagining how I spend this rebate...a new outfit, a manicure, a new hair do...oh the possibilities. After all this is "free money". As Im pondering where my next shopping spree will be I opened my power bill. Lets just say the smile left my face rather quickly !! $163.95...FOR ONE MONTH. Yikes. Suddenly it hit me...this check from SGI isn't "free money" It was mine to begin with. So much for my shopping spree...I guess I'll have to put it towards a bill. Talk about giving it with one hand and taking it with the other. How would you spend a rebate check?

I always spend all my extra money on my mom and kids. The kids always need something and I love to spoil my mom.If there is anything left I think it would be nice to a haircut , I haven't cut my hair in two years.

Thanks for the response, I agree, its so much fun spoiling other people. Normally I would spend extra money on my kids too but with Easter around the corner (the easter bunny already did his shopping for my two kidoes) I thought I would treat myself. Wow 2 years without a hair cut...you must have beautiful long hair.

Mom-or-2, it depends, first of all on how much the rebate is and just what needs to be done. Or if I'm in the mood to splurge. And there's always the grandkids for me to spend it on lol. And I always love a new pair of comfortable shoes.

Being I also live in Saskatchewan I too got a cheque. Mine was worth 114.37. I am no longer able to work so this is just a little bonus for me. I rarely if ever spend anything on myself and this is once I will keep this for me. My husband got a cheque also for nearly 130.00 as his truck is newer than my car so he pays higher insurance. He has plans for his. I'm not sure what and I plan to tuck mine away in my coffee can. Bet you're thinking Coffee Can ??? Well you see every year my daughter and I take a whole day and over night trip to the city. We go alone and my son=in=law stays home to watch the kids. My daughter and I go up on a Friday morning and come home Saturday. We call it our mother daughter bonding outing. We'll have to hit the casio for sure this trip Moma has money lol

I know what you mena thye do that here in BC too one branch of goverment raises the amount you pay and then they send money back form another agency. I spend my rebate checks on things i need or things i want

That's great that you get rebates too, I've heard car insurance is pretty expensive in BC...I'm originally from Penticton but we moved long before I had to worry about insurance. Its much more fun to buy the things we want rather than the things we need !

It works out for me to about $100 adn change a month for the coverage i get. I would rather they just lower the price of stuff rather than rebate it to us.

That is great for you. Here in the US, CIPS has been sending people rebate checks. However, they are not my electric company so I will not get one. :( Wish I could get some rebate checks.!
