Some of my Christian friends said that pain and suffering are God's ways to fashion us for better things. Do you agree?

According to the teachings of the Bible, the gold is being passed through a fire to cleanse and purify it, to make sure that only the real gold comes out. Well, we, His people, our faith, is much much greater than gold, so it's not surprising that we should pass through the "fire" too to cleanse ourselves and purify us from every sin. Yup, I do believe that hardships and sufferings in life are God's way to make a real believer out of us, to mold us into something far greater than gold.

Very well said,maple_kisses. If God brings you to it, He will bring You through it!

Maple kisses, what you say is very largely true, but what is being talked about in the passages speaking of purifying to gold, is a matter of tribulation and persecution - not pain and suffering as we normally think of it. God never causes pain or sickness or suffering to His own people. These things do happen, and when they happen, God will choose to use the circumstances to bring about His purposes in the lives of Hid people, but we should never say God causes it to happen in the first place.
