How can I make my son talk?

My son is almost three year old and he is still not talking much. He is just saying a few English words with no verbs at all. We say a different language at home and he is being exposed to English at pre-school and through television. Maybe he is getting confused because of the two languages, we cannot figure out what wrong we are doing. Maybe, he needs speech therapy. We should talk to the doctor, I think.
Please suggest.
Thanks in advance.

It is very common for boys to develop their speech and language capabilities at much later ages than girls do. My youngest daughter was speaking in sentences at 18 months, while my 3 year old son is still in the "milk please" short-phrase and single-word phase. It's perfectly normal. If you really want to put your mind at ease and rule out anything physical, talk to his doctor.

It is very common for young children that are exposed to two languages at the same time to mix them up. I wouldn't worry about it at this time. Your son is not even 3 yet. He sounds normal to me. My son didn't talk a lot when he was that young and he only speaks English. I am babysitting a 2 year old during the day and I cannot understand anything he says and again, he only speaks English. I really wouldn't worry overmuch about it. Now, if at 6 he is still having trouble, then I would suggest taking him to a speech cente and having him tested to see if he needs speech therapy. Right now, he is just too young to tell.
