I find this very sad. I have had numerous pets die, but at the moment I am particularly attached to one of my cats. "UNABLE to come to terms with the death of their pet dog, a childless couple in southern India hanged themselves. The bodies of 67-year-old retired soldier C.N. Madanraj and his wife, Tarabai, 63, were found yesterday in their home in a suburb of Hyderabad. Police said the childless couple had held a burial ceremony for their dog of 13 years, called Puppy, and hosted a feast for friends before hanging themselves in their bedroom. "The couple described the grief over their pet dog in the suicide note they left on March 29," said police inspector V. Anantaiah. This is very, very sad. I cannot ever imagine being in a postion were I felt that my life was worth taking after a pet dieing. I know I would be terribly upset if anything happened to our animals. Perhaps it is because they couldn't have children. But they still had each other. Well I hope they now have the peace they were looking for.

Oh god that is heart breaking. I can understand though. If that is all you had in your life, you would be absolutely devastaed with grief. I know when I have lost pets, the pain is unberable. At those times I wasn't alone, but who is to say, what I might have done if it had just been me and the animal.

Some people truly do become attached to their pets. We don't socialize very much anymore and that can lead to isolation and dependence like never before. The need for a child can also be overwhelming and they used the dog as a substitute and we never expect to outlive our children. Dogs just don't live as long. Sorry to hear. I hope they are buried together.

I don't know about this. I love(d) all my pets. I had 2 cats pass away and it hurt but not enough to kill myself over. Why is it that some people think they can't live without their pets? Thanks. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

This childless couple might have treated this pet dog as their beloved child. It’s quite natural for certain extreme cases where people behave in this way as they loved their pets so much that they couldn’t survive without them.

That was horrible, jenny. Maybe because they're childless and considered the dog as their own real child. Sure, we can love our animals like they are a part of the family. But I don't think there's any sense in killing ourselves. I've survived 3 dogs in the past and right now, I have a pet bunny of my own.

Such a sad storey. To end your life over a beloved pet is hard for me to comperhend. But for these two people with no children, maybe this is was the only solution they could think of. Not saying I agree with what they did, just I symphathize with them.

This is really sad. I understand the grief they must have felt. I recently lost a cat and it is very painful and I am still griefing. When you don't have children, you pour all that love that you have unto your pets.

I'm sorry, but that's just ludicrous. We all acquire pets knowing that we will most likely outlive them. I adore my cat, but I accept that I have him only for his lifespan, which is much shorter than my expected lifespan. That just makes me treasure him while he's here and give him a loving home. Yes, I'll be terribly heartbroken when he's gone, but it's not very mature to kill oneself over an animal. Why does the song "Ben" (Michael Jackson's sappy love song to a mouse) come to mind?

What a sad story, so tragic. I guess because they don't have kids they feel like there's nothing to look forward to anymore. I wish they just tried having another pet or put some kid to school and share their love to the needy so their existance would've been more meaningful.

It can be poss cause the dog is such a faithful friend that u really fall in love with him more than u can love any other human. Its sad to think about something like this, But I guess thats life we need to be strong and move on in life
