garage conversions

Can the city force me to return a garage conversion to the orginal use. I believe it is my property. I pay my taxes and the monthly mortgage. I have a right to use my property as I choose to do so as long as it doesn't infringe on others rights. can someone help me with this...

It would possibly be a zoning issue, or maybe a safety issue. You might consult a real estate attorney, although that would probably be rather expensive. I would do more research on city codes before i went to the extent of an attorney.
