"Life begins at forty"

Why is it said so? Why not life begins upon conception? Why forty? I'm 44 and i don't feel anything changes in me when i reach 40.

I think that forty was just a measuring point that someone was reaching when they stated that now I would say life begins at 50 because I am in my fifties. Truth is that life begins each day anew for us to discover and amaze ourselves and family.
