William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist was what I would call horrifying. If you've seen the movie, you can imagine how nasty the book is. What William Friedkin directed in 1973 was but a shadow of the horror on the pages of the novel that inspired it.

No books that effected my sleep, but some that have scared me a whole lot. There was a book about evil twins. It was true accounts of murderous twins, and that book freaked me out.

"Somebody Come and Play" by Clare McNally (1987). It's about 4 little girls (not related) who live on a lake with a haunted house close by. I was about 14 when I read it the first time, and a few times since, and I always have trouble falling asleep. I couldn't sleep when I was reading "Intensity" by Dean Koontz, but that was because I couldn't stop. I had this overwelming feeling that I couldn't leave "Chyna" alone to deal with the psycho. I had to hurry up and get her through it. It was intense (hence the name)!!!

When I was reading misery, by stephen king, there was one part I read right before i went to sleep, that made me actually stay up for a while. A young cop had just been killed graphically, and the main character was locked in a basement. He had a waking nightmare that the young cops body crawled down the basement stairs and attacked him. ugh! i hated it

Not really horrified but I'm a bit shocked to The Da Vinci Code. That book gave me goosebumps. It's really shocking to hear those negative issues about Jesus Christ that I know most of us are disagreeing with. But honestly, I'm pretty impressed to what Dan Brown (writer of the book) did. He gave us a big challenge that somehow, tested our faith in God. - Ron Reyes www.ronreyes.co.nr

William Burroughs's 'The Naked Lunch'. I never even finished it. I just found it horrible - it's the only book that actually made me feel ill whilst reading it. Quite why I don't know. It didn't frighten me - it just disgusted me. I feel slightly dirty even talking about it!

Cant remember any book that horrified me so much that i couldnt get proper sleep. I m quite a sleeper :)) But yes returning to the books... Now came to my mide when i have read the short story by Stephen King "The monkey" about alive monkey-toy who always returned no matter how deep u bury it. So when i went to bed , at first i was scared a bit. Was imagining that crazy monkey is climbing into my room through the window, but later i didnt even notice, how felt alseep. It was wired , because I read King's books a lot, but only this short story scared me:)))
