I have been recently informaed by an individual that my reading of the tarot is evil and wrong. It did not change how I feel about the use of divination, but I was wondering what everyone else thinks about it.

I believe that it depends on the situation. I see tarot cards as a method for entertainment only. They could be considered wrong if you live your life by them. This is what I have always been taught.

It would seem you were taught well then, I always wanted a mentor or wiser person to learn from, but I guess I have done O.K. with teaching myself.

I agree, when I sit to read the cards I light candles and relax which is a great stress reliever for me since most of the time I am always running around doing things for others. It is some wonderful me time that is not spent in front of the television LOL.

I have never felt that Tarot or divination of any kind was "evil" or "wrong"...and I truly think that the ppl who DO feel that way have not only been conditioned to do so without being accurately informed/educated and without actually TALKING to someone who does do divination BUT also I htink they take that position because lets face it...we generally fear what we dont know and/or understand....Bottomline IMO, all it would take is a few moments to sit and talk with someone and having an open mind while listening ya know...but unfortunately thats just too much work and there is that risk of having something prove thre is something wrong with how they've believed/lived all their lives and very few are strong enough in their believes to take that chance ya know.....

Some religions believe that using any tool for divination is evil. That it is wrong to try and learn what God has in store or that in using it you are actiually communicating with Evil. I do not think that way. Tarot decks are a tool to gain insight into the past, present and future. The answers might come from the inner being of a person or from the divine but either way the cards just enable the reader to find the answers. They do not create the answers themselves.

I just CAN'T get the hang of the things. I prefer to scry, with a black mirror or glass ball, or to dowse with a pendulum (not really tried rods) I don't think there's anything evil in them, except that I'm rubbish at them. ;)

Everyone has their own gifts and knacks. I for one can stare into a mirror, glass of water or crystal ball for hours and see only my disappointed reflection staring back at me. I have never tried dowsing before, I will have to look into that one. Thanks.

Is this about religion? if that so, there's 2 answer. if you play it just for fun and not take seriously for it (not believe the result), so it's not evil. but if you believe the result and make it as your guide in life, so it's evil. In my religion, do forecasting is evil, because it can make negative effect to human (i.e. becoming lazy). But, this opinion is from my religion. it's up to you to believe it or not

Tarot really does not "forecast" per se. It is more of a way to show the cycles and influences that are present at the time of the reading. Thanks for the response.

I think it depends on the reader.. and I think you can get messages from three different sources.. 1-yourself, and own inner insights.. 2-angels, even God (don't stone me anyone!) and 3-from the dark entities, the fallen angels.. I have a deck and actually took out the more negative cards:)) I don't really use them anymore however.. as I pretty much usually know where I'm going, and what I'm about or am working on.. tho I do use astrology a bit, and it was actually through astrology that I discovered God.. both the father and the son.. if there's a spiritual map and timepiece, there's a watchmaker:)) Plus it's fascinating.. a clock with two faces superimposed and ten moving hands all moving at different rates of speed.. and one of the clock faces revolves too.. once turn each day. I can do charts but lotsa work.. so don't do them cause it was always for friends, etc, for free.. http://www.mystic-blessings.com is my astro/tarot site..

I like that you have made your deck your own by removing the cards you felt were not needed. So many readers are restricted by the "rules" and lose the whole point of it. Astrology was always been a passion of mine as well, I even tried learning to do charts, it was not so much of a sucessful venture but I had fun trying and I know more about it then when I started. I will certainly check out your site thanks for the adrress.

The reading of tarot cards is like anything else. It can be done for good or bad reasons. Tarot cards certainly are not inherently evil in and of themselves. I have heard people say they are the tools of the devil and things like that but I do not put much stock in that. Then again, anyone who unfailingly made all their major life decisions on the basis of tarot cards is makeing a serious mistake. Not a mistake based in evil, but still a mistake. It is my opinion that tarot cards are a lot of fun, but taken to extreme they could be turned into something determental to one's life.

The evil does not come from the cards themselves but from the evil intent with which they are used. That is true with anything I suppose though. Tarot can certainly be fun and useful as a channel through which we can tap into our own subconscious guidance. Often the mind is so clouded with thoughts and worries that the concentration on tools such as tarot and other forms of divination clear the way for our own intuition to be heard.

My mother used to believe that (I think she still does a bit), but I'm afraid I've never understood why the Tarot cards have such a bad name. She didn't feel the same about the Runes, but in my opinion both have the same purpose. Personally I find nothing wrong or evil about the Tarot cards. I use them when I truly need some insight into my life and my current choices and I treat my cards (I own two decks) with the upmost respect. It still always surprises me when I read cards for someone else and everything is always correct about what they're thinking/feeling on the moment so for me that's the proof that they do work.

I love it when I do a reading and the person is blown away by the accuracy of the cards. This always makes me feel good. They often are surprised when I tell them that I posses no special gifts to read the tarot and that anyone can do it too. I have refered many a stranger to the path of reading for themselves.

Why would it be wrong or evil? I don't see any problems with this practice. But I don't believe in it. And jut because I don't believe it, doesn't make it wrong.

Excellent point there. Many people believe that just because they do not understand or believe in something that other people have to right to either.

I've never regarded the use of tarot cards, divination, etc. as wrong or evil (even when I was told that it was by a Lutheran teacher in elementary school). I have read tarot cards before, and I have many friends who have as well. I wouldn't regard any of us as bad people. It doesn't hurt anyone, and I have found it to be a useful tool in many areas. People who regard the use of the tarot as evil or wrong don't typically know much about it. They are therefore often making a highly misinformed decision based on their interpretation of certain texts. My own mother, who believes that Jesus is her Lord and Savior, uses various forms of divination. She has chosen a path that blends the beliefs of Christianity and Wicca (Christian-Wicca).

Christain-wicca combined? I had never heard of that before. That is a very interesting idea indeed. Are there churches for this or is this more of a personal journey for your mother?

Heck, even in the bible some of God's most beloved individuals used various forms of divination.
