I remember being 6 years old during the Loma Prieta earthquake here in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was home from kindergarten with my family waiting for the World Series to start when the ground began to shake. It was pretty frightening then, but now I look back and remember a lot of it and think about it every now and again. Do you remember any big natural events that you experienced first hand? An earthquake, tornado, hurricane, tsunami? How did you handle it? Was your life ever the same after it?

I was in 3rd or 4th grade with the Northridge earthquake hit southern California. And that was the most financially devastating earthquake in a very long time, as I recall. I was asleep on the top bunk of a bunk bed. And, my bed just started wildly swinging back and forth. Now, this is what my brothers used to do to wake me up for school, so I thought it was them, and pulled the covers over my head. Then, my aunt came in the room and said, "Anak, we just had an earthquake, you need to get down from there." We weren't that close to the epicenter, probably around 50 miles or so away, so there wasn't any damage to our house. But, some of my classmates who commuted from places close to the center had their houses/garages collapse. For the next few weeks, my family and my whole school were on edge, especially when those aftershocks kept happening and were pretty strong themselves. Following the earthquake, everybody wanted special education on what to do during an earthquake, so we started doing drills during school. But after awhile, things seemed to go back to normal, as if nothing had happened. Of course, it has been about 13 years since that earthquake...so other details might have become fuzzy. But, I'll never forget where I was when the whole thing started/
