Diabetes Medication such as Gloucophage

I always hear that diabetes can "go away" with a good and proper diet. How many out there have actually began such a program and have kept diabetes at bay? What did you do besides cut out sugar? I also notice that I wake up in a fog and contribute it to too much sugar the day before but when I take my reading it says my sugar is low. I don't think long term I would be a good diabetes patient so I need to change soon and get rid of it. Any advice would be great!
