Do you think 10 pm is too late for a 9 and 10 year old to be in bed on week days, if so what time do you think they should be in bed.

When my neice was that age she went to bed around 8:30pm on a school night. Now that she's 12 she goes to bed at 9:30pm on a school night but she falls asleep closer to 10pm. She also has to get up at 7:30am so she needs the sleep. Now on the weekend that is extended by an hour.

For me I tend to have my kids on their beds at 8 to have a bit of reading time before lights out. But my kids are up at 6 so 8 is a good time for them.

Well, in my opinion, those young kids should be on bed before 9pm on week days.My son is six yrs old,he goes to the bed before 8:30pm and fall into sleep 9pm. Kids need more sleep than adults. And we shuld limit their time on tv.So i think 10pm is too late for a 9 and 10 yr old.Do you think so?

Thanks for your response. Yes I think 10pm is kind of late for bed on school nights, but not on week in and holidays

i think it depends on what time they get up in the morning...kids need more sleep than adults...my 9 year old goes to bed at 8pm and gets up at 7am for school..if she stays up any later than that she is crancky getting ready for school...i'd just watch your kids and adjust their bedtimes according to the way they act in the mornings...

I base my childrens bedtimes on them. My daughter can stay up till 9:30-10 just fine.My sons on the other hand need more sleep so I put them to bed about 8-8:30. My daughter is 8 and the boys are 5 and 6.

We get up at around 6 am for school in the moring so my children are in bed by 8 pm. This has always worked for me, any later and they do not want to get up for school.

9 and 10 year olds need 10 hours of sleep a night, So, if they don't get up until after 8 am, then that's fime. However, their actions should tell you. If they are cranky, rude or just jumpy, they need more sleep. If they are lethargic by dinner time, they need more sleep. If they aren't doing well in school, they need more sleep. its as simple as that.

I would say at 8:30 or 9 is ok. My daughter stayed up that late.

I would say it depends on if they are the type of kids that go right to bed and sleep or if they need some winde down time. Some kids jump in bed and are asleep right away while others will lay there and not go right to sleep. I would suggest 9pm the latest for a 9 and 10 yr old since they have school to get up for. This will give them the time to get settled in and have the propriet amount of sleep needed.
