Mobile phones have indeed changed our lifestyle. It is so popular that they say there are people who would skip buying breakfast just to have a load on their cell phones and do text messages. Voice call is still widely used but is more expensive than sending a text message. So which do you prefer, send a text message or use the voice call (assuming that the message is not an emergency).

I am a text messaging pro! I definitly prefer it so long as it is not an indepth conversation or one that may go on a long time. I think texting is fun, and its easier to stay in touch - especially if you work all day. For instance I had a desk job that required me to be on the phone talking all day to clients so the last thing I wanted to do was talk to friends and family when I got off - so I kept in touch with texting thru out the day - gave me time to think of good response and no feelings of guilt for not want to make a voice call.

I would rather hear the person I am talking to than just receive a bunch of text messages. I get that enough just chatting online through the various messenger services. Not only that I find it a pain in the backside to sit there and type out a message on a mobile phone.

It will most likely be something that takes me many years to get use to, since the only time I have access to a mobile phone is when my husband is home or off from work. I don't own one of my own. Plus I think I am just too use to typing things out on a normal keyboard.

Yes, I would rather hear someone's voice over the phone rather than text message. I'm not sure about the calling being more expensive than text message as it is totally different here. Text message is definitely more expensive for me than a call. However, I feel that, as of now, our world is so technologically revolved around computer and the computer/AIM language that we don't really even know how to write anymore. I think that's just totally degrading to humanity and what with the text messaging going on, it just degrades us even more. I mean we're all almost at a point where we rather go online and email or chat with someone rather than pic up the phone and talk to someone. Which kind of makes me wonder, do we hate confrontations that much? So I definitely would rather call someone than text message. I only text message during a meeting or sometime when I'm bored and can't call someone (like in class or something.)

Hi silvermoon. Texting or IM is a great tool, make no mistake about it. However, just as in other cases, its been to use in a wrong way by wrong people. It's easy to hide behind an avatar and pretend to be someone else using these tools.

Text messaging is indeed ingenious and cost effective. I prefer text messaging depending on the phone I'm using. Some phones do have a nice keypad some don’t. But most of the time, I send text messages than call because It's cheaper and because of some service providers promos, you can send unlimited amount of messages for a minimum fee. I prefer voice calls if It's really an emergency. But if the service providers opens up a new promo with the calls like call for less type of promos, then I would prefer calling because you can say much more in a minutes call than in 5 written text messages. It's just the cost that affects my preference.

very true. the cost dictates our lifestyle in using our mobile phone. having a good handset also helps in making texting an easy task.

I would much rather do a voice call. You can't tell a persons tone through text. Not to mention I hate to be driving next to someone to see them text messaging someone. So dangerous.

So true. You cannot see the true emotion behind a text message which is why a lot gets in trouble with it.

Since it is not an emergency situation, I prefer text messaging. Here in our country it is much cheaper compared to voice call.

Text messaging is so much cheaper than calling my family overseas. If we are on the same network like Verizon, then calling/texting is free - so I have been told!

For me, its depend how important the message is. If the call is important, i rather to use voice, but if my call can't reach i will send text message. For me, i'm prefer both voice call and text message.

I will most often prefere a text message. Talking on the phone takes to long sometimes. A text message is right to the point and so much faster. I do like to talk for hours on end sometimes too, but for instructions or messages I like SMS much better.

I prefer voice call. I hate texting. I think it is impersonal and it gets annoying having to push buttons and trying to find punctuation and so on. I only text if it is necessary, like if my boyfriend is in a meeting and I need to get a message to him.

I am not much of a long conversation person so my preference for quick messages, or just saying "Hi" is text.
