It's spring break and time to go on a vacation, the only problem is your kids are going to need to use the restroom. Do you stop at a gas station/restaurant? How do you avoid them getting all messy? Do you have any tips for parents that will be going on vacation?

When we are out and need to go to the rest room we find the 1st one availible. The safety messure I take is I she my kids what stall I'm in they are to AS SOON AS THEY FINISH they are to come to my stall and stick there feet under the door. They do not even wash there hands till I come out...I hear the flush and tell them "I don't see feet" they say there coming. I have had compliments in the restroom by other women coming in about that idea. I also have a rule that when my kids are going around the car they have to touch it as they circle it..that way they are still close to it...makes me feel safer imbaricing them...oh well there safe..thats what matters to me.

I actually do this, they must stand right in front of my door. If possible I try to get them in the stall beside mine.

Depending on your childs age I would recommend bringing alone a training potty seat. Otherwise no liquids before you leave and make sure everyone uses the restroom before leaving home!!! Public restrooms are a NO NO unless you just have to stop, but please by all means take proper steps to ensure your child has no contact with any public toilets! Or sinks those are nasty as well.

We go on trips all the time (just drove from Pittsburgh to Columbus, OH on sunday to go to the zoo). I never even think about it. We used the rest room at a rest stop on the interstate, at the zoo, a restaurant and a gas station and they were all clean. We just wipe the seats off with toilet paper, go and wash when we are done.

We bring our own portal potty. Hate the gas station restrooms.

Restaurants seem to have cleaner facilities than gas stations most of the time. I really do not like to use public bathrooms and avoid it when I can. But obviously, that is not always possible when traveling. I will only go in one that looks clean and I never touch the seat, I either use the paper covers or squat above it. I also carry little soaps in case they do not have any.

i prefer to use rest areas..they are usually much cleaner than gas stations...i always carry baby wipes with us in the car..atleast that way you can wipe the seat and your hands if the water isnt working..or if your at an outhouse

If I had kids, and were on vacation, I would try my absolute best to take them to a bathroom that I can trust..I would check it out first and then take the necessary steps to make sure nothing happens to them...I would have my own soap, anti-bacterial gels, and bring sanitary seat covers (you know the paper thingies)..most public bathrooms are really gross so I would be extra careful...
