How much is too much?

My Husband is currently helping to build a 10 Million dollar log cabin guest house for a gentleman. To my mind, spending that amount on a guest house is insane. I wouldn't even spend that much on my own house. My line of thinking is that if I had an extra 10 Million to build a guest house then there would be far fewer homeless and hungry. I like nice things just as much as the next woman, but how much is too much? If you had that kind of money what would you do with it?

I would indulge myself. To me, if you want good health you can forget about it unless you can pay for it. So I would become healthy. Get my knees fixed, and my hips. I'd have pedicures to make my feet soft and smooth and massages. I'd get a personal trainer to help me loose weight and I'd have a dietician plan my meals. I'd have a stylist give my hair a good cut and shape that actually suits me and my hair type. I would travel the world and spend more time with my grandchildren, showing them aspects of life and living that they would normally not get to see. I would also travel Australia. I would visit all my on-line friends and have a fabulous time doing so with out having to worry about the cost. I would buy a cottage near the sea or perhaps a lake and have a cottage garden with vines of wisteria and lots of privacy. I'd make my home a place for friends to come visit and relax and be at peace. The money would be invested to make living a comfy life possible. If only I could give myself longer days to do everything I want. I'm too busy now when I'm poor....lol.

I think all of us would do exactly those things if we had the money. I know I would! But I wouldn't spend 10 Million on a guest house. I think I would take that 10 Million and give other people a comfortable life too. I would want to share the wealth. A massage sounds so good right now!

That is way over the top. I could do a lot with $10 million dollars and out of it only a fraction would be for a living place. I cannot believe how some people will throw money a way like that. If I had that type of money yes I'd make sure I was taken care of house wise but then I would still have enough to give away a lot to places like Habitat for Humanity. They could built a lot with that kind of money. Not to mention any abuse shelters in the area. I could do a lot of good with that money and still have enough to live on for myself.

I think it's too extravagant myself. I have never understood why the very wealthy spend so much money on such useless things! It sickens me to know how many people could be helped by what is going into that guesthouse. I know it's his money, but I feel like it's one of those John Stossel "Give me a break!" moments!

omg on a guest house?! that is insane. hell i could donate 2 million to the school district (and the schools here could certainly use it!), 2 million to the homeless shelters and food bank places AND another 2 million to the local humane society. AND STILL HAVE ENOUGH to build a gorgeous house and live comfortably on the interest alone! probably for the rest of my life! the person your husband works for is too rich for our own good (the rest of society).

I can think of a whole lot of good uses for that kind of money. I can't imagine spending it on a guesthouse! So many people could benefit from a fraction of that amount. It just blows my mind!
