Do you still write letters?

Not email or anything electronic. Do you ever just sit down and handwrite a letter to anyone and use the postal service to mail it? In our computer age, does it mean more to you now to recieve a handwritten letter than an email?

Honestly I only do this to one of my friends. And only because she doesn't have a computer or email. And that is few and far between. I still send real cards though for birthdays and holidays. I sometimes write something in those. It doesn't really matter to me really if they email me or hand write me. :) Just words from a loved one is special. But I guess I would rather had an email cause I'd rather email back LOL.

Where am I? :) Just kidding. haha. Some people prefer email over anything else and that's fine too. I still like to write the occasional letter and I definitely like to receive them.

Never use letter anymore :) the reason is too wasting time, because need longer time to write and waiting for the post man :D But if I send packages, I still write a short note... can we call it letter ?

We can call it a letter. It's handwritten and sent through the mail. :) A lot of people feel it's too time consuming to write and send a letter. I guess I'm just different. I think handwritten letters are special.

Do you like to recieve handwritten letters from family or friends? The internet seems to be the brave new world. I just don't want to lose parts of the old one.

letters - love letters written from the heart
yes i still do. i have some friends who still prefer to have snail mails than emails sent to them. i always find time to buy or make cards for people close to me. this mother's day, i'd definitely send one for my mom and on my friend's birthday, i'd also send one for her. i still find this more memorable and sweet compared to e-cards being sent through the net. when i send a letter, they can feel more that they are special to me and that i really find time to do simple things for htem.

I think it's great that you make cards! I bet people love getting a hand made card from you! Now that says,"I'm thinking of you"!

i don't write letter that i actually send off to people, but sometimes i'll write a letter in my journal to a person who i'm having issues with. it's a big help in getting my emotions out and dealing with stress. that said, i think letter writing is a lost art and that people should make an effort to do it more often/

I think that letter writing is a art that is being lost and as for journaling, I love that too. I think it's a great way to work through feelings!

I don't write letters anymore, but I do send out postcards a lot. I know it's not as personal as letters, but it's something. :)

letters - letters from friends i received
i love letter writing. it's my way of putting my hand, my brain and my heart as one, working together for one purpose... to send a personal touch to that person i am sending the letter, too. i do use computers and internet. we have it at home. i have a mobile phone to text or call if i want to. but i feel so great whenever i get to put my "hello. how are you" lines and more in a piece of paper, placed inside an envelope, pasted with stamps and being sent directly to the recipients home. i still write letters up to now. it might take longer before it gets to the person who will receive it... but i say, it's worth the wait after all.

Good question RebeccaLynn, I stopped writing personal letters about 5 years ago, the only letters write are applications for jobs or communications to targeted people at the place of work, otherwise, messages and mails are the in-things today!

I do all of the electronic "in" things too but when I want someone to know that I am truly thinking of them and that I care, I'll sit down and write a letter.

I still do write letters and use the postal service but its very rare compared to my correspondences eletronically. I used to be very good in letter writing those days but computer age and telephony has spoilt all that fun!

It has slowed down the letter writing for lot of us but I still try to write letters so that my loved ones know that I am really thinking about them. I could and do send emails and sms, but I make sure that I still write. It's more personal.

I used to be a man of letter but now with all the elctronic gadgets available, I can no longer write in a paper. I always used computers for my own convenience. I guess it 'is just the same. The contents are the same. And you write fater compared to writing it manually. Likewise you can easily delete if you use a computer or any gadgets.Goodluck!

Yes handwritten letters now do mean more to me because a person really needs to sit down and spend time on writing and going to the post office. I haven't written a letter for a long time and yesterday I received a handwritten letter from my love and I decided to sit down, pick up the old habit and return a letter to him.

When my fiance was studying in Kentucky, I would write him letters. They usually were two pages long, but they rambled on about how my day was. I had nothing going on in my life so they were very uninteresting. My mother, on the other had, would write letters to a relative of ours. He has no phone in his home so the only way to contact him is to send him a letter.

I still do. =) Emails are quick and convenient, but lacks that 'personal touch' we get from traditional, hand-written letters. =) Have a nice day! =)

Hi! Yes. I love writing letters. It's the most personal way of conveying to someone that you care and think of them, no matter that life is so busy. Of course, with emails and sms, you could reach far and beyond within seconds. It has it's advantages especialy if the message to be relayed concerns an emergency. But I would still be writing letters and personalizing them with unique touches here and there even if it would be easier to just send ecards and stuff over the net. There's nothing like having a physical reminder of the person that means something to you. Thank you for this post. Have a great day. Happy posting!

I feel the same way. There is nothing like opening your mailbox and finding that someone took the time to sit and write to you. I have one friend who puts pretty stickers on the envelope. It's so thoughtful of her and whenever I recieve a letter from her it always brightens my day!

It is nice to sit and write a letter. Recieving one in the mailbox has become a special thing to me too. Handwriiten letters seem to be rare anymore.

i rather send or receive most letters thru email. however if it was an intimate letter i rather it came thru snail mail. I guess having a letter physically would somehow feel different. I would feel that the person has put more effort and is more sincere. Then again, nowadays i think sms is most popular and fastest to get your message across.
• United States
4 Apr 07
Yes,sms is one of the fastest ways to say what you feel but I too, think that a physical letter is more special. You can't hold onto an sms forever and and sms doesn't take the time and thought that a handwritten letter does. Technology has it's good points, but old fashioned letter writing is nice too. :)
