How do you cope?

I, myself, don't have diabetes... My boyfriend, however, does. He has to take a shot of insulin every day. We've talked about it, and eventually, over time, he's going to become more and more dependant on it, he'll need to take more and more, just to stay alive. How will I help him cope, if he decides that it's too much to handle? Any suggestions?

My Father in law (FIL) has diabetes and he has it for the past 20 odd years. He is also on insulin jab. A few things about his diet is important. For example, he takes heavy high fibre wholemeal bread. This is because it breaks down much slower than white bread and therefore the sugar level does not shoot up as fast as compared to eating white bread. Brown rice is also a good source of carbohydrates and it acts as the same principle as the bread. Fruits that are sweet (eg:mangoes)will affect his sugar level so try not to take them. Steaming foods would be a healthier alternative compared to deep frying. Include a variety of greens, legumes and roots for variety. Hope this little bit helps. All the best to you both! - Lyn

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I'll be sure to try them, and steer away from high sugar fruits. Take care. =)
