In our day to day life we need to buy some thing for our home needs or personal needs. What if the shopkeeper is busy and tenders wrong change. Will you walk away with that or will you let them know. Today i went to a shop before my lunch to bring some noodles. The noodles costed me 10 bucks and i gave her 100 bucks note. She being busy tendered me 95 bucks of which i returned the 5 bucks. Again just few mins back i went there to get some cigarettes which costs 12 bucks and i gave him 15 bucks. this time he gave me 8 bucks in return thinking that i gave him 20 bucks again i had to return those 5 extra bucks. What will you do? Will you return the extra bucks. What if the shop keeper tenders you less change will you ask them or will you just leave without counting. Pour in with your honest replies.

I would give the money back. It is the only honest thing to do. If it is not returned then the cashier would have to explain the difference to the manager when they are closing the tills for the night and turning in their reports. It helps everyone involved to give the money back.

First of all I mostly use credit card, so no worry of counting or carry cash. But whenever I have to use cash, I have a bad habit of coming out without counting. If I know that they are giving me extra I would go back to give them the extra money for sure. And about getting less I would not boder upto $1 or $2. But if it is more then $5 and also I get aware before leaving the store campous then I would ask them. Once what happen with me in a store is that the lady in the check out counter put a item twice but I got one only. So, I had to spend some extra bucks for nothing. But I did not boder to go back from my car because it was rush in the store and I feel bore to go back and do that again. But it does not mean that I don't care for money:). It is just some situation when I don't want to boder.

i would like to say that i would return the money but i might not. we are on hard times now and scrapping together money to pay bills so i might be tempted just to keep it. i think the good in me would win out though and i would return it.

It will depend on whether that guy is polite to me. If he is nice and gives me a smile, I will return him the change. Otherwise, serve him right. One bad turn deserves another.

I have had this happen to me, and I always give the change back to the cashier. They are responsible at the end of the day and if their drawer is short, could be accused of stealing. I wouldn't want that on my mind. Also, if they give me the wrong change, less, I tell them I gave them whatever amount and didn't receive correct change. I fell I am a fair individual and don't accuse them of deliberately cheating me out of my money. i tend to think they made an honest mistake. After all, we are only human.

Well here is my thinking on this question. If I notice right away while still standing at the register, I will give it back to the cashier. However, if I am unobserbant (this is often) and just genereally not paying attention and I walk away and get home and THEN notice, unless its a big amount difference I wouldn't bother to go back and give it back. If I was already home it would have to be like at least $10 more for me to drive back and give them the money back. That being said, that really isnt very nice of me, but I have four kids to tend to and I don't always have the time to go back and do things like that.

I would return the money. And hopefully sometime I wouldn't walk away not knowing I'd been short changed! But I'm not promising anything! Whenever I tell someone they didn't give me all my change, they will apologize and feel so bad! But I always smile warmly and tell them nobody can be right all the time.. and don't worry about it.. Most of the time, if not always, I feel the person was not trying to rob me.. And even if they were.. oh well, I still feel bad for them. :))

I always give back the money when I notice that I was given too much. There may be times when I'm not paying attention and get the incorrect change back, but I can't just walk away when I pick up on the mistake. If they don't give me enough money back, I honestly ask them to give me the money back and count out the change to show them their mistake. I don't want to cheat anyone else, but I don't like to be cheated either.

I am honestly not one of the nicest persons in the world, but at situations like that, I always return the excess change. That is because aside from the fact that keeping it can be considered as stealing, the cashier would surely have that amount deducted to his/her salary. I do not know in other countries, but in my country, mall/store cashiers do not earn much. So even a small deduction to their salaries is already a big loss for them.

I'm not very observant most of the time. If I wasn't given the proper change in a store I would probably end up thinking that I had just dropped some money a couple days later when I realized that I was short. I usually throw all my change into the bottom of my purse, I'm very unorganized.

If I am standing right there I will give the change back to them. Usually though I pay via debit card because I absolutely HATE carrying cash around with me. At least with debit there's no way of making a mistake unless the cashier enters the wrong amount and you will see it before hitting the "enter" key on the keypad.

Return the extra money. And in the case of that clerk, pull the shop owner or manager aside and say "You might want to review basic math with your clerk, because his mistakes may be costing you a fortune!".

Yeah if they gave me more than they should have and I realized it I'd return it. Probably won't happen because I can't count worth spit. ButI can say I'd return it after an incident involving a 50 I found on the floor at the grocery store and didn't keep.

yeah i will defenitely give it back and will not walk back with that....cause that person sitting at te counter will be in problem if this happens too often. there is a possiblity that she/he will lose her job. so i think its our responsibility to help them out. its not their mistake either. when a shop is too crowded, mistakes such as tihs tend to happen. So i will always be honest and return the money back

I usually tell them that they made a mistake. The way I look at it if they short changed me I would certainly tell them so if I was given back too much money it is only fair to tell them as well.

I will definitely return the excess change to the shop keeper because i feel whaever money we get without any effort will not last with us and we may loose some valuable money from ours too.Its true..which my mom always says.

These often happen in our daily life,i also met this kind thing some times, every time when i gave her money but when her give me the charge i will count it ,if she give less charge i will ask the less ,if she give extra buck to me i will turn it back ,it not belong me .I think every one should count the charge when surpermarket staff give you ,you have the right to turn the money belong you ,you also have no right to get the money not belong you .

Best to straighten it up, no matter which way the error goes. Keep it straight. But do be considerate do not waste the time of people in line behind you just to make a point over pennies.
