No it is much older Gnosticism usually refers to an esoteric cult of divine knowledge (a synthesis of Christianity, Judaism, Greek philosophy, Hinduism, Buddhism, and the mystery cults of the Mediterranean), which flourished during the 2nd and 3rd centuries and was a rival to, and influence on, early Christianity. The medieval French Cathar heresy and the modern Mandean sect (in southern Iraq) descend from Gnosticism.

Ok, I knew it is much older, and the principal writings are the Apocryphon Gospels, such as Philip's one. But I meant, if it is a synthesis of all the popular religions of that age, isn't it the same idea of modern New Age? I didn't know about that sects, it is very interesting. Sometime I find the Gospel of Mariam as a Gnostic text, but I think it is something different, right? As the Gospel of Judas, it doesn't seem to be related to Gnostic texts, althougth they use some similar vocabulary.
