Someone here is using VOIP (voice over internet protocol)for phone calls? And if yes who is the carrier? What about the service? What about the costs saving?

We are currently using the Packet8 phones. It's a VOIP phone but I am not that familiar yet as to the costs because we were using Vonage VOIP phones before. To compare the two, we like Packet8 more because it's less hassle than Vonage. Unlike Vonage, Packet doesn't have to update the address whenever you change your location. Plus, it can easily be configured too. Packet8 provides not only the router but also the phone unit. VOnage only provides the router. What's advantage on these kind of is that you can be able to make unlimited calls anywhere in the US wherever you are in the world in just a flat rate (not including other surcharges, of course). Like in our case, we are situated in the Philippines. We have American clients to deal with that's why labor costs are a lot cheaper here compared if the company is located in the US. Another thing, you don't have you don't have to switch on the PC all the time while making calls since the connection runs through the modem which has the internet connection, not with the PC per se. For you to be able to have a nice connection using VOIP phone, you have to use a cable or dsl internet connection because theese phones are powered by the internet. Hope I have given you enough knowledge about VOIP phones. :)

I used vonage for a couple of years. I ended up cancelling because the price really wasn't much cheaper and the calls were staticky and my cable drops for short periods of time pretty frequently so whenever it would drop my phone would go out, and that's no good for us since we need to have it up in case the school calls for the kids ect. My dad has been using AT&T VOIP and has for also a good couple years. He likes it. He also gets annoyed with the phone being out when the cable is, but he doesnt have the static problem like the vonage did.
