Lately especially when i try to go to sleep at night my heart races and feels like it is up in my throat. I feel scared to death. I was told it was a panic attack but they really would not hurt me. But i dont know whether i believe that it cant hurt you that cant be good for your heart. What do you think can it damage your heart? Also what can you do besides medication to stop them?

Yes this is a panic attack one of my best friends has this problem it is dreadful she said, they are not good for your heart at all and can cause you to have a heart attack what my friend found that she has to take a sleeping tablet every second night so that it does not happen to her.

I have had this problem too. This is what I do when I feel that way. I simply take the Bible to bed with me, it works everytime, I imediately feel a calmness come over me. Good luck, the feeling is awefull. I also have a small fountain on my headboard, I like to turn that on, it is soothing.

Panic attacks usually cannot hurt you unless you have some underlying heart problem. Have you gone to your physician yet? Women sometimes have minor heart problems they do not know about that can be controled with medicines that minic panic attacks. That is why I suggest going to your physician. There are ways to help you with the panic attack one is try to figure out what the cause of the attack is. Another way is bio-feedback or relaxation techniques. Sometimes exercise will help. Exercise sometimes helps because it helps reduce the stress a person feels.

I had panic attacks back a few years ago. I was sick and had had chest xrays done and there were spots on my lungs. my doctor thought it might be cancer so scheduled me for all kinds of tests and a biopsy. had to wait a few weeks for the biopsy as it was christmas time. You can imagine how worried I was! woke up one night breathing heavy and my heart racing thinking if I laid back down and tried to sleep i'd die! I knew what was happening because my ex-boyfriend used to have them. Found if I relaxed and stayed calm in about a half hour i was fine. turns out I didn't have cancer. the spots on my lungs were caused by sarcoidoisis.
