My idea of camping is in a tent and cooking on the open fire. Sitting around the fire at night telling stories and singing that kind of thing. What is you idea of camping? Is it in a camp or camper a tent? What sort of things do yo like to do when you camp?

I spent fifteen years in the armed forces and many atime was spent in a tent. listening to the rain on many occasion was alove sound knowing that it was nice and dry snug in mw sleeping bag. Those were the days.
Have a nice day from Deeeky.

It is a very long time since I went camping but I loved to camp in the open air and sit around a big fire at night. We would usually have a few drinks and a good old singsong and this would usually go on into the early hours of the morning. Now that I am a lot older, I don't go camping anymore but I enjoyed it immensely when I was young.

Camping has never been my thing if it involves staying in a tent. Cooking on the open fire is fine. I prefer to go in a travel trailer and be comfortable but that is just me. Perhaps if I was a little younger I might try the tent thing but I kind of doubt it because I never did before.

I love camping, and spending the night underneath the stars, I went travelling last year, on my own it was a driving/camping holiday where I spent four weeks travelling the whole of Scotland up on the West coast and down on the East. It was a wonderful experience and adventure, I had to cope with gale force winds, rains and daddy longlegs but it was part of parcel of camping. I also put my mountain bike in the back of the car, I would definitely recommend it, if you are looking for fun spontaneous adventure. I don't get lonely and prefer to go on my own, no one else to worry about!

Most times, tent all the way. Cooking on the open fire comes with it of course :):)
That is what real camping is to me.
There have been times however where things changed a bit. WHen the kids were small we had a small tent trailer and it worked really well for us. I know we could still rough it, but it was much easier for us that way.
AS they grew up we got back to the tent thing and it has worked perfectly.
I think it might be time for a change again. I still enjoy the tent, sleeping on the ground... but my body seem to disagree with me sometimes LOL
Maybe in a few years we will get another tent trailer and compromise the real thing for a bit of comfort.
But for now it's still working for us:)

Yukko, I do not like camping. My idea of roughing it is a motel without my bed and my bathroom!
If youwant me to go camping there better be a travel trailer or motorhome with water! I will BBQ all day long, to the marshmallows around the campfire and hotdogs on a stick and the breakfast in the old cast iorn skillet over the campfire, but I want to be able to go to bed and not have to worry about all of the freaks out there now days! I know that is terrible, but that is how I feel.
Thanks for the post

My family and 3 other families go camping each summer- At least 2 or 3 times. Our family has a tent- We camp in the tent- I thought about buying a camper-- but haven't yet- There is just something fun about tent camping. We always have a bonfire morning-noon and night- We take grills though- So we cook on the fire and on a grill.. There are 6 kids in total-- We take bikes and ride- we fish, walk nature trails.. and just have fun- Stay up late- get up early! Its one of my favorite activities in the summer!

I'm not a big fan of camping, but my husband is and I do it for him and the kids. My idea of a great camping experience would be in an air-conditioned trailer complete with a full kitchen, color television and queen sized bed. However, we sleep in a tent with air mattresses. My worst experience camping was being at a campground with tons of flies. We ended up having to go to another campground that had no trees for shade. The ideal campsite which I've been to had a manmade beach and a built in swimming pool with an airconditioned social hall with a restaurant. That's my idea of camping.
