While I have yet to take time to study the language (I must admit that it intimidates me), I have taken an interest in Japanese cuisine as a result of the anime I've watched. I know it sounds funny, but sometimes when they show bentos or other little snacks, I get really curious about what it could be. Now I pack bento lunches for my sister and I. I even post about them in my blog.
I've also done a bit of reading about the culture and festivals thanks to anime. I think that part of me hopes it will give me a better understanding of some of the story lines.
Thanks for the great discussion topic. I've never stopped to think about what other interests of mine have stemmed from me reading manga and watching anime.

I'm a pretty new anime fan too, heh. I've been trying to learn Japanese -- and was even before discovering Anime because my best friend Jay can speak it, and sometimes he forgets to speak in English, and I wanted to be able to know what he was saying right off the bat instead of having to look it up.
I'm getting there I guess. Since reading the Basara manga though, I've been surfing other stuff from Japan like Japanese rock..the kind of foods they make -- the candies and snacks, putting all the animes I find that I'm interested in on Netflix to watch 'em..and I've been trying to learn Kenji.
I guess I'm a little obsessed lol. But at least it's a good kind of obsession, right?

A mark of an anime fan is when a person imitates the expressions, gestures and even the way the characters look that they see in watching anime. Another is when they try to implement the way of thought of the characters - for instance, if you have watched Detective Conan, if you become obsessed here, you might tend to think critically and analytically also.
