Do you roll up your toothpaste, slice it, or leave it like a fish?

How do you deal with your toothpaste? - A picture of 3 kinds of toothpastes.

Brush, brush. Upper teeth, lower teeth. Left, right, up, down. Brush brush, done. How's that for a teeth-brushing routine? I am not going to ask if you brush your teeth - I am assuming you do. I am not going to ask how many times you brush your teeth - countless discussions on that already. I am not going to ask if you use toothpaste or charcoal - I am just going to assume it is toothpaste! :P As far as I have observed, toothpastes all come in tube form. You get a tube of toothpaste and you squeeze it till the paste runs out. You may have observed that the tube form isn't really the most ideal container for toothpaste. When the tube is near finished, there will likely be some paste left inside that is hard to get out. In this case, what do you do? Do you roll up your toothpaste and try to squeeze out as much as you can? Or do you slice it open like you would for a fish? Or do you leave the tube as it is, looking just like a dead fish? Or do you have another more innovative way of getting the remaining paste out? Or do you simply throw away the tube when it is almost finished and let the remainder go to waste? :P Do share your thoughts. ;-)

I usually buy the toothpaste in plastic tube. I normally roll out the toothpaste and put a clip at the edge. This will help me squeeze out the last remaining paste easier. Toothpaste is expensive here in my country. No need to waste a few paste when I can still use it to maintain my sparkling white teeth.

It's expensive in the Philippines? In Singapore, it is about US$2 for a big family-size tube for a "normal" Colgate. I have those clips too.. but I don't like it too much. :P

Hi lordwarwizard, you're quite funny! Toothpaste does not cost so much where i come from and i could use a tube for like two to three months and once its exhausted, i don't try anymore methods to get it out cos i feel it has lasted enough; i just get another one. But i've lived somewhere, where they did some of these things you isted and it wasn't funny!

Our toothpaste tube sits there like a beached , lumpy fish.. yes, it's quite disgusting.. no rhyme or reason whatsoever.. I save the tube till almost everything has been struggled over as far as getting out the last drop, or until my family revolts and threatens to never brush again.. whichever comes first.. My new grand scheme is to save all the almost empty tubes and use the paste to clean my sink.. ever noticed how shiny white it'll be under a spot where an errant glob of toothpaste has sat? I tried using it as glue, but that was disappointing..

I love to brush my teeth and I really roll it up when it is almost empty and like mom winterose I cut it out too to get what is left in tube lol!!!I really think it is the proper way to make the toothpaste more of use lol!!!

Interesting discussion as always lordwarwizard. I don't do any of those things. I throughout the life of the tube of toothpaste, take the flat end of my toothbrush and firmly press on the tube pushing the contents to the top. Lid on of course. When the tube is done it's done nothing else is coming out. It is flat as can be and I have used every drop that can be squeezed out. Looking forward to other responses on this. :)

I do the same. I use the toothbrush to keep the used part flat. By the time the tube is empty, a final squeeze, from the two side pieces will completely empty the tube. No waste.

Not at all. I find a lot of things difficult, because most of the bones in my fingers have been cut out and replaced with silastic, which means most of my fingers don't bend, or only bend slightly, apart from where they connect with the hands. I have no trouble squeezing the toothpaste. PS I can't stand seeing a tube that has been squeezed in every place along the tube. It looks awful.

Say! That's good revenge for that big thumb print that always mars the smooth shape of the tube.. So you must hide the new tube til the old one's squeezed out.. brilliant! :))

To deal with my tubes of toothpaste I bought these things called tube squeezers. I got them for like $1.50 and they came three to a pack. After the first use of preferred toothpaste you slip them on the end and as you use the toothpaste you just keep sliding this thing up the tube. They work pretty well for getting that pesky last bit of toothpaste out of the tube.

Aye, sometimes they can be rather annoying, but they do make things easier on my hands since I suffer from slight arthritis in both my hands and wrists. So I deal with them. :)

I have that too. My Dad loves it. But I don't really like it. :P

I have a weird little device that slides over the end of the toothpaste tube and as you use the toothpaste you move it up the tube..it gets virtually every bit of the paste out of the tube and leaves it perfectly flat. It is 2 bars of plastic attached together with an elastic band that is adjustable..the bars are round and roll as you push them up...I think it was a gag gift..but it works really well!!!!

Ok, I'm going to try very hard to answer this with at least four or five sentences even though its not going to be easy. Since all I would have to do is tell you how I use my toothpaste. But instead we are going to type about how I am going to answer your question eventually getting to my answer. My answer is I squeeze it from the bottom and work my way up. Hey I did it. I deserve a badge for that one Don't ya think? lol

Well done. I can't help it so please forgive me. People are more responsive with stupid questions like this. I do have discussions of a more thoughtful nature as well; I try to have a mixture of both types.

I usually squeeze the tube to get whatever is left inside. We cant simply throw it away because we are not getting the toothpaste for free. That squeezed paste will come surely for two or three days.

My mom is utterly good at saving tips. She always finds a way to save even the least that we could. And for toothpastes, yeah she would slice it open. She doesn't force us anyways to do the same, but at least she's there to do the saving for us, whilst we open another tube when we feel like so hard to get some paste out of the old tube. :P

Interesting.Very helpful hints.Best is the idea of slitting it open like we do to remove fish' bones.Lol. I try my best to use the maximum I could by pressing and squeezing.I doubt if anymore quantity is left then. I like the way your mind wanders.:D

LOL.. but it might leak a little if you slice it and leave it around carelessly. :P

I squeeze the tube and have never gotten into the habit of rolling it up. I don't throw it away until every last drop is gone from the tube. I am cheap, cheap cheap!

Well it really depends on whether I have got a back or not. If I have a back up then I just throw the used one away without another thought but lets say I get up one morning and see that I am out of tooth paste then it is back to the good old rolling and squeezing the life out of it. Call me merciless for that ;p

I roll it up and squeeze squeeze squeeze until I can't get any more out of it! It drives me nuts that I know I am throwing away several brushes of paste when I end up throwing the tube away. :)

I actually use my toothbrush to flatten the flat part of the tube even more and then roll it up as we use more toothpaste. That way we get as much use as possible out of one tube and there's very little waste. I like to try and get as much use as possible out of toothpaste because it's not cheap these days, and when there's 5 of you using toothpaste twice a day, it doesn't last 2 minutes lol. Very interesting discussion here hon. :o)

I will try to squeeze the toothpaste until I am not be able to get anymore, I may try to use a pair of scissors to cut the toothpaste up to try to get the 'last toothpaste' so that i will not waste any of it.

I will attempt to roll and squeeze only if I cannot find another toothpaste in the house. Otherwise, I will just throw the fish (it really looks like a flat fish) into the dustbin head in first.

I fall in the cut it out category, because my mom use to say it is not nice to waste anything. And I notice too that there is a lot of toothpaste stuck at the upper part of it. You know the one you keep on squeezing on til your fingers hurt. There is a lot of toothpaste inside almost for 3 brushing or more. I got tired of rolling them up, so I just incise them. And brush up the remaining toothpaste. (^^,LOL
