Studies....wow!

I am currently studying, distance education, and alot of my courses are done on tape, in Braille or in Large Print. I started a new course that I found a bit confusing but plowed through it anyway. When I submitted my answers to my teacher I thought 'oh boy I've failed for sure'. I received an email telling me I've gotten a B!!! Wow what a surprise! It means that I am smart after all (I'd been told through high school how stupid I was) and even though the course is tough/confusing I still did it :)

Well done indeed to you hookfan! you are too hard on yourself and I am very pleased that you have proven this to yourself! The people who told you that you were stupid were ignorant and not very understanding people and I hope that you now realise just how wrong they were honey! xxx

Oops sorry no I guess I didn't. I'm really not one to brag. I just enjoy doing my studies and really enjoyed learning Braille. It's helped me so much. Clever clogs? I don't feel like one, but I am proud of what I've achieved :) xxx

My roomie was told by an idiot that blind people don't need math, that's what they have parents for. Don't you just wish you could go back & slap that ... with a lawsuit!

Oh yes, most definitely! I was taught math the wrong way and have had to be re-taught! I've learned with an abacus and find it quite easy to use. I also use a calculator and thanks to my job am able to do maths in my head too :) I wonder if that idiot realises that alot of blind people work in banks and are accountants too LOL xx

Also, that person probably did not know that there is the Nemeth Code in Braille, made specifically for science and math. I am nowhere near good enough in Braille to learn it yet, but I can hardly wait to learn it eventually!

I am so happy to see another disabled person succeeding. I'm sorry I didn't see this discussion earlier. I have my own trouble with math, so I can relate (my high school math teacher told me I was stupid, too).

Wow, that's very good, Hookfan. You're probably more relaxed now that you are away fom high school. Keep up the good work. I did much better in college than what I did in high school. I was always too intimadated to ask questions. Especially in math classes.

Most definitely more relaxed about studying and since I'm doing two courses and have one month to do a lesson in each I tend to work hard and do two lessons a month in each if I'm able :) I was intimidated in school as well, always very shy and never understood maths. Now that I've been taught in a way I can understand it helps enormously! I guess the teachers I had never took the time to find out the best way for me to learn and my current teachers are finding out the best way for me :)
