IBS is an overactive bladder that's supersensitive to the presence of even small amounts of urine, so that the emptying refles is alerted prematurely and too often. Bladders usually become irritable w/ infections, bladder stones or if urine is impeded by an enlarged prostate gland, but often a cause isnn't found.
CHANGES TO YOUR LIFESTYLY - cut out all caffeine and alcohol, drink normal amounts of liquid and go to the toilet only when you need to.
BLADDER TRAINING - learning to hold on , so that your bladder stretches and can hold more urine, can help, as can pelvic floor exercises.
PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES - such as Detrusitol block the bladder's nerve impulses, relaxing it and increasing its capacity.
AND ASK YOUR DOCTOR - to refer you to any local incontinence advisor.
