Lenten season is one of the hallmarks of our faith other than the advent season. Lenten season is the season where usually the christians commemorate the passion of Christ. With this, can I have your opinions whether or not Holy Week or Good Friday among christian countries should be considered non-working holiday? Here in the Philippines, Ramadan was declared a non working holiday for our muslim or Islamic countrymen- However, Good friday i think was not formally declared by the government as a non working holiday. Do you think good friday should be declared as one too? thanks in advance.

ramadan was declared a non-working holiday by president arroyo lately as a sign of respect and recognition for other religion. Good Friday was declared by the Philipine government as a legal holiday ages ago...

Oooo ooo can I have all my religious holidays off too? I use up most of my "paid time off" from working celebrating religious holidays, to the point where I hardly have any for doing anything else. It would be nice for me to have all the Equinoxes and Solstices off automatically!
I don't think it works very well because everyone celebrates different religions. So if you're giving Christians the Holy Week off, then what are you going to do for anyone of any other religion? Or are you going to try to cater to everyone and make every religion's holidays days off? Maybe have people register their religion when they get their job?
Even then, what about athiests? Or agnostics? Or anyone else who doesn't have any "religious holidays"?
I know here in the United States Christmas is a pretty standard day off, and that's a Christian holiday. But I have a winter holiday around the same time, and I still have to use my time off to get that day. So it's a little unfair, but I know a lot of people who aren't Christian also celebrate the "secular version" so I guess that's why it's done that way.
I guess I think this would just be unfair, and a little hard to do. I'd rather no one get special days off for religious observances than just one religion and not others get it.

yeah, it wouldn't be fair if only "christians" get religious holidays OFF- you do have a point-and i do agree with you it is not fair for other religions to get a time off and others get none. So it is indeed better that we dont do these religious holidays off.
I was just asking because here in the philippines, ramadan was declared a non working holiday in respect with the religious practices of our muslim countrymen- so i was just asking on behalf of the catholics or christians. Here in the philippines when applying for a job- religion is always asked in the person's bio data/ resume. At least the company will have some background on the persons religious preference.

If i will be given authority to proclaim non-working holidays, i will declare non-working holidays to Good Friday. It is like giving time to God for us to pray and acknowledge God for everything he has done for us.

I personally don't think it is fair to give anyone religous hoildays off. I know that people get Christmas off and such here in the US and I love that. I don't think it is fair though, if we can't give everyone their holidays off then no one should get them off. One thing I have noticed employers doing and I agree with is they will allow you to take one of the paid hoildays and substuite it with one of your choosing. I feel like this is more fair.

Well of course. Actually, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are considered regular non-working holidays. Incidentally, Maundy Thursday fell exactly on Gloria Arroyo's 60th birthday. She also declared Black Saturday a non-working holiday.
