Mock Terrorist Drill in New Jersey School

United States

..I just heard this on the news. A New Jersey school held a terrorist drill. Instead of offending any Muslim folks by portraying the terrorists as radical Jihadists (an ok, even good idea by the way).. the portrayed villains in this mock enactment was Christians! Now why label the terrorists at all! In this enactment, a girl had been expelled for praying and her family or church was taking revenge! Now granted they "labeled" them fundamentalist Christians, but in Christianity what fundamental means is "based on the New Testament" and (Christian +/or American) societal traditions-some people think this is loony, but who's to say what is the better philosophy? Or, that is to say, what is more 'loony'? Do you think this specific mock terrorist drill is acceptable?

The minute you start putting labels on people you are in dangerous waters, the same with stereotyping, not on. But it can get even uglier when you down run your race, gender or faith for that matter, just so you don't offend somebody else. Very sensitive issue, I will keep my eye on this post to see what others say. Thx for a very difficult but interesting topic.

..thanks for your response.. I wouldn't like to see a mock drill with jihadists represented.. or anybody else either! If you have a mock drill (or even the real thing heaven forbid!) what difference does it make WHO is doing it.. It's still deadly, period.. If we all start portraying each other in such ways, we're asking for and promoting future prejudism etc..

no not in saying they were christians . the thought should be just terroists no religion connected.its a drill just like we had bomb drills when I went to school. That was after 2nd world war had ended but we still did them I think it was in the 50s around the time of the KOrean war. Ok Miles come correct me lol

That's very right! Bomb drills.. I don't think the schools ever thought "oh, let's pretend the German (people), the Japanese (people) or heaven forbid, the white people from up north, or the black folks from down south.. are bombing us".. (for instance!) That would be just plain ignorant, and nobody in their right mind would approve..

When I first read this post I was indignate about the senario of the girl and her church taking revenge.. But as I thought about David Carish came to mind. So a fundamentalist extreme church could do this. But I can’t help but wonder why we cannot call a spade a spaed these days. We have to be so politaly correct about every thing that it is stupid. The terrorist that we are dealing with are muslim extremest. So why not say so.

...yes, I think even this would be better than labeling another (whole) group of people.. I mean there's been postal shootings and the like but does that mean we should have mock drills of attacks by postal workers? Or a street gang of one particular race? Never! This school (with all type and manner of pupils) should have thought this out a little better!

Stories like this make me want to RAGE..!!! This doesn't make sense. NOTHING THAT I WAS RAISED WITH MAKES SENSE anymore. People who want to DESTROY our way of life are more important and we bend and cower to them. I will say what the BETTER PHILOSOPHY is...it is our tradition NOT THEIRS. How DARE they?...?!! I know why Christians had the CRUSADEs against radical jihadists.
