I have a question for all parents out there. Did you give your baby formula milk? If yes, until how many months did you give the formula milk? I have 3 kids and my son took formula milk until he was 4. When do you think is a proper time to stop formula milk?

I have 4 children. Things have changed since I had my last 4 years ago. I gave all of my children formula until they were 1 yr. old. the doctor told me at 1 yr to put them on whole milk. When they turned 2 I was advised by the doctor to put them on 2% milk. I did this for all 4 kids and their age range now is from 6-18.

My first daughter starting rejecting the bottle at 10 months old and then quit drinking formula when she was 11 months old. My middle child was very similar, she was under a year when she gave up both. My son, who is now 18 months old, quit drinking formula when he was 7 months old but that was my decision because he was having a bad reaction to any kind of formula I tried. I put him on a nutritional milk based drink made for adults and he did wonderful; he still drinks this stuff and is extremely healthy. I always thought that after the baby turned one year you should take them off of the formula and put them on whole milk. If they are eating well and are getting all the vitamins and minerals from everything else, I see no need to keep them on the formula.

I think I can try to gradually switch to whole milk now. My baby is not a picky eater anyway. She tries to eat anything unlike my first child who did not like solids much when he was a baby so I just let him drink the formula milk until he was 4 yrs old. We were still in Singapore then and the formula milk there were in different stages up to 6 yrs old. Here in North America, the formula milk I have seen so far is only up to 18 months. So I think I should swith to the whole milk instead. Thanks for all your replies!

I stopped giving my babies formula at one year of age. That's when the doctor said it was safe. At this age they are able to eat a variety of foods and get the nutrients they need from the food instead of the formula. They do make formulas for toddlers. I think it is called step two. But, for me , buy the time they reach the first birthday they are ready.

This is entirely up to you, at 10 months my daughter still has her formula - she's on step 2 with the brand i buy & i intend to go to the step 3 with her formula once she turns 1 - not all kids like the foods with the 'good stuff' they need in them so it's a good suppliment - it's certainly not going to hurt them. You asked someone if their 6 year old still drank milk - which i thought was odd - i still drink milk & i'm 25 -they cant have whole milk until a certain age coz of the bacteria milk has in it & then they can have milk whenever after that - it's good for their bones, especially in growing kids! Good luck with that but just do what you think is right!

My son had formula until right around his first birthday, then the doctor recommended the switch to whole milk.
