Debt

Anybody here ever been in debt, or has a hard time managing money? It seems like in the United States of America, people are always looking for ways to make some extra money-sometimes for extra luxuries, but most times to get some help paying the bills. I usually don't have a problem managing money and I keep on top of my expenses, but I know people who are thousands of dollars in debt. If you ever were in debt, what strategies of extra money-making did you use to get out of debt? Why do you think it is so easy to get into debt and so difficult to escape?

By God's grace I have never been in debt. But there was a college friend of mine, who was always in debt, and needed my help now and then. I had to always help her with money, sometimes paid her doctor and medicine fees too.

I don't think I know anyone who isn't in debt! It's very easy to get into debt. Things come up, and most people don't have the cash to cover everything they want or need, so you get into debt. Between credit cards, student loans, home purchases, car payments..most people have one or more of these types of expsnses. Personally, I'm terrible at managing my finances. I got out of the credit cards and don't use them anymore, I don't own a house yet, and I don't have a car payment, but I do still owe student loans. I know people who are in BIG debt and will never, ever be able to pay them off..unless maybe they win the lottery..because they can barely make the minimum payments on all of their bills every month. They'll be paying them off until the day they die. I don't want to be like that, so I'm always looking for ways to make extra money and pay for things I need rather than try to finance them. The reason its easy to get in debt is simple.. we want the things we want, and some things we need to have..so we need to find a way to get them, and financing them is the way people do that. You know what they say. I owe, I owe, its off to work I go.. lol :O)

Moum, that's awfully generous of you to do that for your friend. I don't think anyone has to help anyone with bills unless they're your child or even your parent (if you have the money). My dad is going through the same situation with debt and it's like you said. Americans want the extra luxuries and see credit cards as free money and don' think about the future complications. My dad's going to try private tutoring since he's a drummer just to make more money to pay the bills. As for me, I'm getting married in June of this year and am so strapped right now. I'm doing GPT offers like on Treasure Trooper, Cash Crate and Gangster Greed just to get by. I have a full time job that pays for the bills and so far so good with that one.
