Do animals have "marriage" problems?

I'm sitting at my dinner table with the curtians wide opened. Sitting on the fence to the pool, there are two birds, male and female. It looked to me that they were having a "lovers spat" because the female was jumping around the male and fluffing out her feathers. She looked irritated and the male was just sitting there chirping back at her.
I got to thinking, "Do animals have spats too?" I know that they get uppity if there's another of their same gender around and fighting for the potential mate. But these two birds looked as if the female was nagging the male and flew off in a huff. Is she like humans who secretly wish for the male to follow and comfort her?
What do you think?

It makes complete sense to me that the animal world would have some of the same relationship problems that we do...of course they are not fighting over money problems but I am sure that personality's and mood changes affect them. Also, we have all had pets and realize that they can have health problems which can also affect their method of coping with things.....so I would have to say that YES they do have some of these issues. GREAT DISCUSSION TOPIC in my opinion.

You brought up some really great points there. I forgot that health can be a contributing factor.
Did you see the movie "Babe"? There was this sheep dog couple who was having "marital" problems because the male was being punished or was sick...and that made the female sad.
Thank you also for your compliment!

I believe they do.. I have 2 dogs, both female though, and they have 'spats' and if you watch you can tell they are irritated with each other at certain times or when things are going a certain way. It's interesting to watch how they react to each other and interract. I also enjoy watching them when they are playfully wrestling with each other and tugging on each others ears or nipping at each other in a loving/playful/careful way. Or when they are being loving and washing each other or kissing each other on the mouth. It's sweet and based on these things I do believe that animals have relationships much like humans.
