When to quit feeding your baby jar foods?

I still feed my son baby jar food, but my mother-in-law keeps telling me he's well ready for table food. I don't think he is ready just yet. What do you think? Should I start feeding him table food or stick with the baby jar food for awhile.

How old is he? I started my kids on nibbling food around 7 or 8 months. Little bits of toast, cheerios, waffle or pancakes broken into small pieces.

My son is 8 months old, so you think he is ready? I'm just a paranoid mother. I'm afraid he will choke or something.

Sure he could eat a little solid soft food. Put him in his high chair and give him 2 or 3 little like bite size pieces of toast or 1 o2 cheerios. Muffin maybe just make sure they are small pieces. I found pancakes the best no butter or syrup. He won't choke he will most likely suck on the food anyway it will get real mushy fast.

I don't know why everyone here keeps saying cheerios :) The first thing my daughter had off of my plate was mashed potato :) She is now 10 months & will eat everything, she has toast for breakfast most days with different spreads etc, she has noodles or spaghetti for lunch (these are just my examples) & last night for dinner she had diced up pieces of sausage, baby carrots & mashed potato. She enjoys chips/fries (oven baked not fried) - she sucks the middles out, she likes instant noodles coz she can slurp them up, we have even tried her on steak - now, we tried pieces & strips & the strips of steak worked well coz she could just suck on them! Having said ALL that, i still have jar foods in the cupboard from when she was littler & if after dinner she's still hungry, i grab a jar & give it to her - usually it's a custard or pureed fruit but she can still eat that too. I'd recommend trying him on some real fruit - maybe a slice of Orange, or you could try little strips of toast (we call them soldiers) with a bit of jam/jelly, just butter or something like that. Another thing that is easy to eat & is tasty - scrambled eggs. Maybe you could try French toast! You just do what you think is right, if you're happy to stick with jars, do it but just make sure he's getting enough of the good stuff an 8 month old needs. Try mashed potato though the next time you cook it - he'll eat it no problems! Good luck!

I think you should just try some cheerios and see how he does with those. Then he if does good then maybe you can try other stuff. My son is 10 months old and he is still on baby food at the sitters but he eats table food at our house. We just cut it into really small pieces. I was also paranoid for the longest time still am at times. You have to do what's best for you and him. I say just start with the cheerios because they are easy to disolve and go from there. Good luck.

Depending on his age. If you feel comfortable with the jar food, then keep giving it to him. Around 6 months you can try him on cheerios. The cheerios come in handy in between regular meal times. When you feel comfortable with it,give him a little bit of table food and see how he does. Nutrition wise, the jar food is balanced for nutrition. Once off the jar food it is much more cost efficient to have him eat what you are eating.

i think it depends on the baby...some are ready for table food before others...if you dont feel comfortable switching your son yet then dont as long as he eats the baby food for you i wouldnt worry about it...when your ready ween him off baby food slowly so you know he is getting the nutrtion he needs...
