Speaking against the holy spirit

I have been troubled by this for awhile now, but when I read in the bible that anything spoken against the holy spirit will not be forgiven (I think), it made me think, "I have said things against the holy spirit, like, when I used to say 'holy (bad word)' and things like that". I am still a little troubled by this, if anybody can clear this up for me that would be nice. Have I spoken against the holy spirit? This is also related to people saying God's name in vein without knowing they are, like when you say "gosh" instead of God, it may sound different but the value is still "God". So I think it's his name in vein.

Catman, I was told by a minister that to speak against the Holy Spirit is to totally reject Him after you've had a close walk with Him for a long time. You were walking in the Spirit and you have some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit manifested in your life. That is what is meant by speaking against Him. Now calling the Lord's name in vain is wrong. And I've been guilty of that myself. When I catch myself saying, "Jesus" and not really needing His assistance at the time I will repent immediately. I didn't know that gosh meant God. But if it does thank you for telling me that.

I don't think I have totally rejected the Holy Spirit, but my seed is planted in a bush of thorns currently, I have faith but only for short amounts of time, then I regain faith, but then it goes away, but I regain it again...

Praise God Catman, that you do regain your faith though. If you have your steps in a bush of thorns just now just ask the Lord to give you the strength to go through it and to come out stronger. And I will agree with you also, in Jesus name.

I think everyone has lukewarm times with their faith. Mine is constantly like a roller coaster. I'll be on a "spiritual high" then a few months later I'll get lazy and start to drift. It's all about self-discipline. God is always waiting to welcome you back and will immediately forgive you and forget. That's the beauty of grace. God knows we'll get weak and drift away. That's why he refers to us as sheep. But He loves us just the same and if we do become lost, He drops everything to come find us. To Him, each individual is like an only child and has His devoted attention.

This is very controversial. First off, the unforgivable sin is called blasphemy. Now, some say that using God's name with cussing is blasphemy. But I personally believe that blasphemy is when one openly rejects the Holy Spirit. Once the Holy Spirit convicts your heard about Salvation, you either accept it, or reject it. Once you have completely rejected it, you have blown off the Holy Spirit in a sense, and have denied the gift. Thus blasphemy in my perspective is a flat out rejection of the Holy Spirit. I too used to swear like that, but I have comfort that I am really saved now and I know that I would not have that comfort if I had committed the unforgivable. I was in your shoes once. I was also scared. But I really focused on it and God brought a calm to my soul finally. As long as you do not openly reject God, I believe you are ok.

Speaking against the Son of Man will be forgiven but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven - now and even into the ages or in the future. People should be aware of what they are saying.

The Bible says the only unpardenable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and what that means is to totally reject the Holy Spirit. Taking God's name in vein is not blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Taking God's name in vein is more of a disrespect toward God and God forgives you for that. The pharisees were rejecting Jesus and the Holy Spirit (I believe that is the scripture you are referring to).

What everyone has said. It's also saying, when you reject the Holy Spirit completely, then you are probably no longer interested in following or believing in God. Therefore, you have left God and no longer have His grace. It's a choice you make and will not be forgiven if you stay that way.
