I am just curious to see how many of you make your own marinades. What do you put in them? What type of base do you use? And what meat goes best in it?

I use italian dressing to marinate chicken. Put the chicken in the dressing the night before you are planning on making it. It tastes best if you grill the chicken. The italian dressing makes is juicy and tender. I do this all summer long. For beef, I buy a meat marinate in a package where you just add water. It is cheap and easy.

Mmmm...I have marinated chicken in Italian before and that is great! And like you said-very good on the grill. I too like the marinade packets for beef. Thank you!

I would use olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Red meat or chicken is great with this one. You can also use fish if you are going to grill it. I also like olive oil and lemon juice for fish with some fresh dill and a dash of honey mustard salad dressing.

Ooh that does sound good, and I bet chicken would be very good in it too. The honey mustard sounds like it would be great too. How do you cook it? (Bake, broil, etc.)

I make my own secret homemade BBQ sauce to marinade steaks in- I don't really have a standard recipe, it's more throw in whatever I want until it tastes good! But here's a general idea: worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, tomato paste (or ketchup), crushed garlic, fresh ground pepper, spices

Well even your throw together recipe sounds very good! Barbecue is just as good for marinading and basting, I think. What meat goes best marinaded in it?

I think marinading is the trick for softening and tenderizing any type of meat then huh? Wow-I have never had elk or moose before. I bet one anaimal produces a LOT of meat doesn't it? What is it similar too? My guess is beef? I always thought those animals were kind of similar to cows.

My BBQ sauce is usually for beef or other steaks. We do eat a lot of wild meat, and this recipe is also great on moose, elk, or deer steaks, whatever you like. Wild game can be a bit tougher than beef, but after it's been marinaded over night it's sooo good!
