Being someone that works on computers all the time, I can offer you 2 options of advice. First you can try to use Windows XP's "System Restore" feature. System restore will "Roll Back" your computer to the original state it was in before anything bad happened to it. Sometimes though a system restore won't work. Which brings me to my next advice. If you can't get the system restore to work then you'll need to reinstall a fresh copy of XP. This means you'll have to format your hard drive, and you'll loose all your data. So before you do this if you have important data then you'll need to back it up on CDs or DVDs. When you do a clean or fresh installion of XP it'll re format your hard drive. Don't try to use the upgrade option, as I said you'll need a new installion and it'll take care of missing files or viruses and repair your system. Good luck!

you might have been working on computers, but i think u haven't explored much about computers. restore and formatting are not the only ways for bringing XP back to its orignal state, there r several other ways do it and that too without loosing any data, exceptthe data present in the drive containing windows. 1. (a)After u installing windows create your own restore point instead of system check point(i.e backing up registry). (b)once restore point has been created install an external utility which can also maintain operating system's(OS) registry so that i case system restore fails one can restore system using external utility(eg system mechanics) 2. if think that virus has penetrated deep and want to format the windows, then instead of formatting whole of the hard disk format only that drive which contains OS(ie windows files). first of all save all the important data to another drive and format the drive containing windows using bootable CD. this helps u to save ur data without taking large amount of backups on CD's and DVD's. After u have finished fresh installation create a restore point using system restore and external utility,do not access data on the other drives(i.e don't browse)as they might be containing virus. Now install an antivirus which has facilities of both antivirus and firewall, update its virus defination, conduct a complete virus scan and remove all the virus using antivirus, don't try to remove them manually. 3.if find it difficult to install windows, then after installing windows for the first time, install all the desired software that u want to install create the image of the drive containing windows using any utility(eg Nor ghost) on the drive other than the one containing window. take backup of this image on a disk. windows XP image will come only in DVD as it is more than 2GB, size also depends on the number of software u have installed. Now if the system crashes, simply run the bootable CD of that utility select the image created and perform the repairing job. this method is installing fresh windows but hte only difference is that in this you dont't have to start from the ground zero.ur window will contain all the software installes before creating the image of drive containing wondows. on of the best method of installing windows on hard disk of same sizes. there are still many other ways of recovering from XP crises, thes other methots will step u into editing of registry, windows folder and intellegantely removing different virus from ur computer. U MIGHT HAVE BEEN DEALING IN COMUTERS SINCE MANY YEARS, I RESPECT THAT BUT EVEN I AM A IT PROFESSIONALIST.
