community service

here in our country rendering community service is included in the school curriculum of the college students for at least one year that is equivalent to 2 semester ...i would like to know if in your respective countries if it is also included in the school curriculum..and why is it important ?

when i was still in college community service is not a part of our school curriculum since R.O.T.C. was not yet abolished..it was then introduced when r.o.t.c was gone and in replacemnet a community service should be imposed and be a part of the curriculum to make students aware of what really the needs and basic problems of the people in the community.

We have also community service in our school, i took it for 1 year which id equivalent also to two semester.I enjoy very much having community service because i helped many people and i encounter different people in a community.
