Make up is must for women. Really?

I just received some info about lipsticks of the most international brands, from Walter Reed Army Medical Center, containing lead. As we know, lead is a cancer causing element. Dioxin carcinogen is the main cause of breast cancer. However, i don't seem to think lipstick is important for me. Nor is foundation, compacts, eye liners, lip liners, mascara, blusher, highlights, concealers, etc.. Men, should women put so much emphasis and so much time on their looks EVERYDAY? Why or why not? Women, do you think you CAN'T LIVE to face the world should your face be left au naturel even for a day? Is it part of your MUST do daily routine? Are you COMFORTABLE just being who you are when leaving the house for work or the grocery store or even the playground?

As a man, I'm not sure how inciteful my experiences and thoughts can be, but here goes. In Europe,'make-up' was originally worn by men and women, but went out of fashion for men. However, during the early 1980s, the 'new romantic' movement allowed for men to start wearing make-up again. Whilst this was generally just some eye-liner and lippie, it could, on special occassions, be a full artisitic face painting. It was quite a liberating experience, but was saved for nightclubbing, not day-to-day use. I think that for women, it is only a matter of choice. If you are going out somewhere special, and really want to make an effort, then making up would possibly enhance that feeling of an impending enjoyable event. If you are just going to the shops, then I suppose it is up to the individual. Some women feel the need to wear make-up, and feel more confident with it on. If possible, I think ladies should wear as little make-up as possible, as often as they can. Bear skin will probably be healthier than clogging up the pores constantly. As a little footnote, in the UK in the 1800s, before sun tans became fashionable, women favoured pale skin, and used to wash their faces in arsenic to create a pale complexion. Fortunately, that habit has ended!

It's scarey, what people will do to themselves from vanity. Mind you, I've heeard modern tales of ladies having a rib removed to get an hour glass figure? Fortunately, when I was young, the media didn't pay much attention to men, but I'm worried for both girls and boys nowadays with these 'heroine-shic' models etc. Glad the answer was of interest. All the best.

I worry for young men nowadays, because I feel the media ia starting to impose its ideas on them, as well as young ladies. There seems to be a glut of 'health/sport/energy' drinks, pressure to go to the gym, and that concept that a single type of male is appealing. Whilst not yet as bad as women have been bombarded with over the last 30 years, I suspect we are on a slippery slope, and there has been an increase in males suffering from eating disorders, already in the UK. With regard to women with bones jutting out, as a man, I don't find it appealling in the slightest. In media terms, every lady is either a 'twig' or overweight, yet there is a wonderful healthy balanced weight inbetween, and this is what I deem as an attractive weight, and agree with you that beauty really lies beneath the skin, anyhow. All the best.

Hi Adrenochrome, thank you for your reply. It's truly insightful indeed! History in the name of beauty is really interesting. Women actually wash their faces in Arsenic? They want to look like those ladies in Renoir's paintings i suppose. You know - pocerlain skinned :) Thanks again! - Lyn

I don't like to see much makeup on women. I prefer the natural style. Beauty sometimes gets hidden with all that makeup. And since they do bad, why not drop it and use only when really necessary.

Hi RogerTheRabbit, thank you for your comment on this topic. I agree that those who are pretty really doesn't need any make-up while those who think they are not need to stay away from make up and just focus on their inner beauty. Beauty really is from within. Make up is only a facade. Cheers! - Lyn

wow lead in lipstic of famous brand? Hm sounds crazy! here in Lithuania and i think in the world too such "jokes" are forbided. Sure containing of lead in lipstic were discovered after some laboratory made tests on it. I'm doubt that famous firm would show it in label of product... I had information about that woman during her life eat about 6 kg of lipstic. Hm imagine she could die using such lipstic all life... man usually don't like their wife use cosmetic...as they say - they like natural face (sure, they don't want "eat" wifes make up when are kissing her! hahahaha). But somehow they will not pay attention to woman with "no face" -without make up.As man don't like show to woman their bald pate:) as woman need to look nice faced. And woman would say that she like her man natural, not covered head by wig or "bouquet"made of remainder hair on head...But man try hide it. So make up for woman is as a part of body:) For her good feeling. And she never lose patience to give herself some time for spending it up the mirror.

Hi scorpiostar, I know it sounds crazy and just like you, i thought these famous brands would never show the contents or their lipstick. However, a BIG thank you to our crazynurse, she actually provided the link that shows it's only an urban myth/legend. 6kg of lipstick is alot! Can you imagine how many lipsticks make that amount? Do you remember the time when the old european culture wears wigs? - Lyn

I believe so but at the same time, some men use it too. I dont use makeup everyday or barely ever. I have natural beauty in my eyes and dont need it, plus with 2 kids under the age of 2 who has the time.

well being a guy i think that if i was to truely go for a women based jsut on their looks i would want them not to wear make up as they true beuty has nothing to do with their makeup, sure at time they can dress up and put it on but most times there is no need. it just seems people in this world (paticullary girls) are just becoming too worried about their looks, a little concern is alright but obsessions have began to strike the world which is a bit to far in my eyes. cheers Plunt

Hi Pluntt, thank you for your reply. Many girls are worried about their looks. I agree with you. Some even went through botox and plastic surgery. I think guys have to remind us girls that beauty is only skin deep. Don't you think? - Lyn

yes i think guys do need to remind girls but the problem which i see is that girlos tend to fall for the "bad" boys who give them no attention or any compliments so it becomes hard
